LOS ANGELES — About $350,000 worth of marijuana products were seized during raids at 16 locations across Southern California — including several medical marijuana dispensaries, police said.
Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said 11 people were arrested on suspicion of drug dealing Wednesday.
The raids targeted a single group of criminals illegally making and selling cocaine, meth and marijuana at medical marijuana dispensaries, Capt. Ralph Ornelas said.
"This organization was definitely working outside the law," Ornelas told the Pasadena Star-News.
Authorities seized 35 marijuana plants, 78 pounds of processed pot, seven gallons of concentrated cannabis oil and 4,000 pre-packaged, marijuana-laced edible products, with a total value of about $350,000.
Five of the raided sites were medical marijuana clinics, KTLA reported. The operation targeted locations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties.
Two processing sites, a grow site and a sailboat were also searched.
Authorities also seized $20,000 in cash and six vehicles, according to KTLA

They obviously had more than enough evidence to conduct a raid with a warrant. That means atleast two purchases of either meth or cocaine took place on the premises. They seized medical product because they are revoking their right to sell such products.

The thing that sucks is it may have just been a single person working at the dispensary that was selling and had nothing to do with the owners or other workers. But that is what happens when you operate in an industry that is still on the edge.

Where is all the cocaine and methamphetamine that appears to have been the pretense for the raid and seizure of private property? They raided 16(!) dispensaries and seized $350,000 worth of cannabis products, plus vehicles and even someones boat... and no cocaine or meth is mentioned being found.

They were illegally selling marijuana. Obviously to people without cards.

This was a local law enforcement agency. It wasn't the Feds. These dispensaries were breaking state law.

I get that the raid was within the realm of city/state law enforcement and not federal (although it is still debatable considering federal law empowers states/cities/counties with extra-constitutional powers to search and seize property when drugs are involved). What I don't get is if it was an individual or a small group of individuals - why were 16 dispensaries raided (that would be one *huge* cocaine/meth conspiracy) and yet no meth or cocaine was found?

I've looked for more information, but no luck finding anything besides the press release by the PD.

I think the point about obama is that he said the feds would lay off medical marijuana and let states do their own thing. Most people took this as: The federal government will not fuck with mm so long as you are within your states law, and leo from the state level on down cannot arrest you etc when you are within the states law. Therefor if you are legal with the state you can be assured you ARE legal, even though its still technically illegal federally.

Yet here we are with dispensaries getting raided. Although I will point out obama didnt send DEA in to bust shit up, this was done at a more local level. I think it's just some confusion for people who assumed everyone legal by the state was in the clear on all levels.

I wouldn't say its obvious that they had enough evidence to conduct a raid legally. They may have, but its certainly NOT obvious from the article. I don't think it's an entirely safe assumption to make either. Cops bend and break the law all the time, and I don't think its impossible (in fact im positive it happens on at least some level ALL THE TIME) to think they fabricated evidence in order to raid, or just raided anyway. For them to mention coke and meth in the tags, then not mention it in the article is bullshit. That's extremely important information and should not be omitted from the article or any discussion of this particular case. It sounds like the "hard" drugs were the lynchpin in obtaining a warrant to raid and seize all this stuff. If it wasn't, and they had enough evidence of illegal activity going on with only the marijuana, then they should have never mentioned it in the first place. It just doesn't add up.
