Hello,
So just a little back story. I love and very much prefer the fruity strains. A few years ago I grew an amazing smelling and tasting Bubblegum, but it was the weediest runt of a sickly plant absolutely not worth keeping...so I didn't. But I still crave that delicious bud. In the interim I've grown a few Blueberry strains and have enjoyed them immensely.
So when it came to buying some new seeds I was immediately looking for anything described as a Blueberry Bubblegum strain. I read good things about G13's Blueberry Gum and decided to purchase them. But when I went to buy I noticed they had two strains on sale...the "original" and the #2. Looking into what made up these two strains (see below) you can see that they're a little different:
Blueberry Gum = Blueberry × Bubblegum (as one would expect).
vs
Blueberry Gum #2 = Blueberry Gum (as per above) × Black Domina. Ummm...so its only half Blueberry Gum?!
I couldn't find much info on the #2 at the time of purchase, and certainly couldn't find any comparisons so I decided to be the lab rat and test em out for myself. So I bought these two strains from G13 over a year ago and now the time has come to see what they produce.
I started with 5 seeds of both the Blueberry Gum and the Blueberry Gum #2 (one of the Blueberry Gums didn't pop), plus a couple extra random strains to help fill out the tent (Blue Bubba × Afghan Kush, & Afghani (yes, those horrible freebies from herbies that they were flogging for ages...and yes it looks as bad as what I've read so far (see pics below)).
So the plants are at 3 weeks from sprouting. To germinate them I just popped them in jiffy pellets in a moist airtight container and they showed their heads above soil at about day 3 (the 3 weeks starts from that day 3). And they've been living in my small tabletop tent in 10cm pots under a florescent tube since day 15 (as you can see in the first group shot)...at first they were just under a couple of small CFL lamps since I hadn't pulled the tube out of storage...hence why they're small and a bit stretched. Oh well...
Today they were potted up in to their final pots. I'll give them a few days to recover from the stress of the move and then I'll top them (using tops as clones). Then a few more days layer once recovered from that I'll switch to 12/12 and the fun can begin.
The plan for this thread is to post weekly or biweekly updates and comparisons of the two strains. If I'm bored I'll post more and if I'm busy I'll post less, but I don't plan for this to be a crazy involved thread. From here on out it'll be basic updates and pictures so we can all see the two strains side by side in the same set up.
Below are as many of the relevant variables that I can think of:
Medium: 50% House and Garden Coco (1st reuse), 30% Canna Terra Pro, 20% Perlite (strange mix I know)
Main Light: 1000w HPS with dimmable ballast (semi-often run at 75% on hot days due to tent location).
Stock: from seed (will take clones to hopefully find something worth keeping)
Main nutes: Canna Terra Vega & Flores
Supplemental nutes:
Feed ph: ~6 +/- .2
Pot sizes: 2 sizes. 10L and 14L
Grow room: 1.2×1.2m tent
Ventilation: massive in line fan and carbon filter. Passive Intake > Light > Ducting > Fan > Carbon Filter (again, strange...I know)
Temps: lights on: 27°c-32°c, lights off: 17°c-22°c
