the backpack sprayer i use outside has a removable head that works like a spray bottle, the tighter you turn it, the finer and wider the spray. it also has a handle to pump it up you can reach while wearing it, so you don't have to keep it pumped up hard, you can just give it a couple of pumps and it won't spray very hard
