Garden Layout - Strains for Spring 2009

It make take me a few posts to get this diagram to come up.

This spring I've got Bubblegum, Blueberry, Strawberry Cough, Red Diesel, Big Laughing and Kali Mix in my garden. And an unknown 18" indica clone from Dr Greenthumb's mix that I think is a kush (discontinued mother, this is not the stone I'm looking for - but DAMN is the smoke smooth!). I've also got mothers for Skunkberry and Skunk who's clones won't fit into the garden this run - I'm just finishing up a plant of each so I'll have their bud for a while.

The center square with 9 boxes is an Aquamist 4 (2' x 2') which I converted from one central sprinkler to sprayers for each plant, and added bubble tubes along the bottom of the resivoir. I made a top for 8 clones (18" - 24" tall - PVC railing helps keep them straight) and the center open for light to get to the side branches of the 8 clones.

The eight squares on the outside are the full size double topped plants: 3 RDWC (Recycled Deep Water Culture) 5 gallon buckets; and the other 5 boxes are 5 gallon buckets of pro mix.

The four ovals on the outside are 18" single cola clones in 2 gallons of promix. I'm leaving the 4th space open in case I get a third Kali Mist female out of 4 seeds.

The light is kept 2'+ from the tops of the clones in the aquamist, the full size plants and dirt clones around the outside are higher to get light to their side branches - the garden looks like a coliseum. The garden is 4.5' x 4.5', 1000W Hortilux HPS with a Sun System 2 air cooled reflector, 3 x 30W 8.0 UVB, 160W MV for UVB, Reflectix.

I'll crop that diagram tonight, to make the whole post fit the width of the screen. {done}

I'm looking for bud to fight depression and mania, so euphoric with the other characteristics - up, stone, laughing, contemplative, energetic, narcotic, relaxed, etc - depending on the need. Plus something to send my head spinning when need be.

I'm getting a couple of these strains next purchase, suggestions would be appreciated: DJ Short's Flo, F13; Serious AK47, White Russian; Greenhouse White Rhino (or Mr Nice's Medicine Man); and perhaps Jack Herrer / Jack Flash (I was looking at C99 but the description says paranoia).

Do you folks have any other strain suggestions or garden set up ideas that would help?

Thanks.

I should be more specific about the help I need:

1. Strains

I'm ramping up my garden to produce bud to counteract the symptoms of Clinical Depression and Bi Polar Disorder (mania & depression), and a chronic pain killer strain for when the new arthritis drugs start taking longer to develop than the last generation works on a family member.

I've been catagorizing the effects that I need and keeping the strains that work best and tossing the mothers for the strains that get bumped out of the garden. This is what I've come up with, if you can offer any suggestions I'd appreciate the help.

1. Need a vacation - cerebral knockout, trippy

I've got Barney's Red Diesel for this now, will put my first plant into flower this week. I've been thinking about Jack Herer.

2. All day functional high, up lifting, social

I've got Kali Mist vegging and Bubblegum (Serious) ready to flower. Strawberry Cough is also good.

3. Anti anxiety

Strawberry Cough really suprised me on how quick and well it works on anxiety. I grew this for a family member with anxiety problems and I can see the tension drain from his hands as he hits the vaporizer.

4. Immediate change of mental state

Big Laughing by Dr Greenthumb. You can be crying and vaporize a bag of this and 5 minutes later you're nearly pissing yourself laughing. Amazing taste, like spicy wood. My favorite strain, very social but silly.

5. Physical stone for pain and digestive problems

I've got DP Blueberry and Peak Skunkberry now, but I'm thinking of picking up White Rhino or Medicine Man. The blueberry is a relaxing euphoric stone though, which is nice - while the Medicine Man will knock a fella out. Maybe I need one more catagorie for relaxing Euphoric Stone, which means I need a strain to fill this one. I've also read that a potent sativa, like Super Silver Haze, can be very good for physical pain - does anyone know about this?

6. Relaxing Euphoric Stone

DP Blueberry and Peak Skunkberry.

.

Any alternate suggestions for each catagorie would be appreciated, I like trying new strains so I'll eventually go through all that catch my eye.

As well, any suggestions for changing the catagories for treating mental and physical pain would be a great help.

2. Plants won't ripen

This is a real pain, the bud isn't as potent as it should be and I can't get ahead on my bud inventory - always chopping and roasting so I can have bud to vaporize. I get good size buds, good yield, buds covered with trichnomes - and all the trichnomes clear 4 or 6 weeks after their harvest date.

I'm using a 1000W Hortilux HPS and 250W of UVB lights (not 250W UVB though) with Reflextic walls. I just started using the UVB lights on February 3 and I am noticing some good ripening on the upper buds, but good growers have been producing great bud without UVB for years - so what am I missing or doing wrong?

- I've started letting my buckets dry out almost completely close to harvest, before watering - read this somewhere on the net.
- I've tried 11 light / 13 dark and had no luck.
- I may be feeding the plants too long, I haven't been switching to clear water until I see some milky trichs, weeks after harvest date.
- I don't give 36 hours of dark on onset of flower because I have a continuous garden. I could put the plants in a dark room for 36 hours.
- I transplant from a 6" pot to a 5 gallon bucket when going into flower - my veg room is crawl height only, not enough height for a 5 gallon bucket. Maybe I'll use a 1 or 2 gallon bucket in veg.

If you can tell me of anything I'm doing wrong, or could improve on, I'll speak highly of you in other threads.

;)

"more organised than most stoners i know"

LOL. I roasted two buds each from a Strawberry Cough, Skunkberry, Skunk & Northernberry last night and ground up and stored the bud in a seperate pill bottle for each strain. I just did a Volcano bag of each strain, that's pretty much what I was like when I did thoses posts. I must have edited each post about 30 times, it was the most important task the world had ever seen.

Putting everything down on 'paper' helped me organize my thoughts and see where I'm at, get some idea what to shoot for. I like the 6 strains that I'm flowering now - Big Laughing, Blueberry, Bubblegum, Kali Mist, Red Diesel & Strawberry Cough. I think they'll cover bi polar and depression so I just have to pick something up for physical pain - White Rhino & Super Silver Haze maybe. I really want to try AK47 and Jack Herer too. So many great strains.

Thanks guys
