Whats up ya"ll I've been a member for a while but I stopped growing in Cali for a couple of years. I'm now living in CO and figured this would be a good chance to get back to one of my favorite hobbies. I'm a little out of the know with the new equipment out. most likely I'll be using a Blackstar 240w Led I already own and I will purchase another one. I've use the Blackstar LED in the past with good results but I still want a little more so I'm looking at the Gavita PRO 270e LEP, does anyone have experience with these lights? I found a local spot that has them for about $950. thinking about putting it in the center with the LED on each side. Any info would be great I remember reading an article a few years ago about how Plasma Lights were the next big thing. Like to know if they are worth the $, I'm not really trying to produce quantity just awesome buds and do a little pheno finding. I am new to the area and I learned the hard way along time ago, only grow cuts from people you know that have been grown out and tested so im also going to be banking my findings via tissue culture

They might be a slightly wider spectrum on the par scale, but they just don't put out enough to justify the price.

Cannabis likes the red end in flowering any ways.

I see I'll have to take that in to consideration, I am planning on using 2) Blackstar 240w leds in conjunction with another light haven't decided which one possibly the gavita LEP or a LEC, to supplement the areas where the LEDs are lacking. I have a few parameters I have to work with in and a 400w HPS/MH is out of the question, small space and I cannot use AC.

nah heat not so much, in this climate I really could just pull fresh filtered air from outside and still be fine. The AC restriction, along with the smaller grow space, no soil or coco, comes from the better half. in the past I was kinda messy. the budget is open though :)

Thats a good video that very simply explains current lighting technology.

Hes objective and its based on facts.

I have been reading quite a bit about the latest plasma lights here recently. So I will repost what I said in another thread regarding the Gavita Plasmas and another plasma horticulture light called "Rocket Plasma". I am interested in the Rocket Plasma myself. Strictly for personal growing. I am looking for better quality more so than quantity so low watts and a sweet spectrum are what I am looking for.

"Gavita is referring to their own specific plasma lights when they say that. Not plasma lights in general. I am not saying the Rocket Plasma will flower any better than the Gavita plasma lamps but in theory it should. Considering the color temperature for the Rocket Plasma is suppose to be around 3000k ( http://www.rocketplasma.com/rocketspecs/ ) and the lowest color temperature Gavita has I believe is around 5600k for the 41.02 emitter ( http://www.gavita-holland.com/index...ing-plasma/item/gavita-pro-300-lep-ac-eu.html ). I can't seem to find a color temp for the 41.01 emitter at the moment.

"So in conclusion:
- We recommend the 01 version as most efficient to complement HPS light during the generative phase and suitable for short vegetative cycles
- The 02 version is also suitable for a combination with HPS, but has a better quality than the 01 for vegetative development, so it is best utilized in a pure vegetative environment or for sunlight simulations
- Use one Gavita Pro 300 LEP in combination with a maximum of 1200W HPS lighting for a better color spectrum which results in healthier plants, higher quality and a better yielding crop"

There is some good info in these Gavita pdfs about spectrum and plants. Check them out if you have the time http://www.gavita-holland.com/helpdesk/knowledgebase.php?article=11

Lately, I have read quite a bit on these plasma grow lights and I feel it is necessary to point out that the plasma technology used for the Gavita and Rocket Plasma are two different designs from two different manufacturers. So the end product is a bit different in regards to the spectrum.

Topanga supplies Rocket Plasma - http://www.topangatech.com/

Luxim supplies Gavita and most of the other plasma grow lights - http://www.luxim.com/products/grow-lighting

It is true that the Rocket Plasma bulb needs to be replaced after 9 months but. That isn't because the bulb stops working. Its because the red spectrum dissipates after that time period. The bulb will still work. It just loses its ability to put out the mostly red spectrum it had from the start and it can be replaced with new one. If I end up getting one I just might use my old bulbs for the vegetative phase."
