One thing though. If your friend is showing you the ropes you might want to just do things his way until your at a point where you no longer need any help. Cannabis growers are a stubborn bunch so it could cause tension if you start questioning what he's teaching you. You can do things his way for now and change later if you want to.

LOL!! I plan on growing and continuing to be a victim of my own success out on the links. Although being high messes with the short game a little ...
 
I used to sell clones, as a business. Buying them was a lot of fun and watching them grow. Now I only deal in seeds, not selling, just buying. There are clone only strains which are going around but I try to find those in s1 feminized seed format. I grow each seed like it's a potential newborn baby, i get great germ rates. If a particular seedling starts looking good, and turns out nice when it's in late veg, I will take a cutting before I flower the plant, which is what your friend is telling you. That cutting can be rooted, becoming a clone, then grown into a large plant, and then more cuttings taken from it, a whole lot of them at once, to have a fleet of clones of that particular strain, and run a crop of them. I don't grow big now so no crops but that's how it works.

If you want to grow the same strains over and over then you can grow from clones. Growing from clones usually takes more space as you'll need to keep mothers and make clones from those plants. Some do it different ways though. Some keep dedicated mothers and cut clones from the same plant for a length of time. Others grow a plant to the size they want to flower it at and then cut clones that they will continue to veg and flower the plant. They continue that process over and over always taking clones before they flower the plant.

I used to grow the same strains from clones. I grow from seed only these days. I like to grow different strains every grow. And with seeds you can have thousands and thousands of future plants stored in a small container.

It doesn’t have to be that way, that would take you a long time to get a harvest.

what I do is pop seeds then take and label clones from each plant, then flower the plant and allow the clones to veg, then when I harvest and test each plant I pick a keeper or a couple and disgard any clones from plants I didn’t like. The clones from the plants I did like go into the flowering room and become the next harvest.

This does take up quite a bit of space, if you don’t have much space check out @Star Dog technique of taking clones from flowering plants

Many ways to approach cloning and growing. He's not lieing to ya as everyone has said. You can grow out the seed to be your mother, take multiple cuts off it to grow all the same plant. You can grow the seed and take one cut off of it to be your mother, you can now just flower out the seed because you have a new mother to grow out 4 cuts.

Really your cloning process depends on if your growing all one strain, if your adding plants to your room thru the grow, or if they all start and finish at the same time. Figure out what works best 4 you

@Chief Keef with limited space and money i use a clone tent and 4xt5s for my mothers, seeds, clones and potential mothers.

For potential mothers i take them in flower, if it's any interest to you give me a shout.

Cut clones 3-4th week of flowering.

Treated the right way it takes ages to recover, i take advantage of that recovery time.

Beautiful! I used to do exactly the same as you. Basicly because of space restrictions, plus liking to try new strains, and because I like the crazy reveg growth.

These days I have enough options to where I just take a clone b4 flower and top a few times over the months. Don't really keep a dedicated mom. Tops of plants clone great for me, so if I wanted 6 of the same cut it would still be easy to get those cuts off of a clone just taking the tops.

It's surprising how little you need for a perpetual grow, 3x20w cfl would be cheap as and sufficient light for a couple of mums.

Edit...I should add its not all slow af growth, the slow part is just convenient for my present circumstances.

If you/me want to we can have clones rooted from them and ready to go in roughly 5-6 weeks, it depends on a few factors (example see post #30 middle picture)

i been cloning the very top and main branch. iv cloned 3 times going on a forth in less that 6 weeks. and each one grows like a seedling(i think is better and more symetrical) same exact top cloned every 20 days or so. and im doing a super veg on them, my own style. topping for the clone and growing out 4 main tops and just removing the inside fan leaves. make for an amaing bush with 50 ish tops in 5-6 weeks i dont think it gets much better for real everyone should try it. mine is blueberry from 207. i will alway veg out every seedling like this from now on. its truly amazing.

not for any reason, but the main stem just grows the same every time so makes them uniform. and simple to get you 40-50 tops fast. the alternating nodes may be lass symmetrical over all.

Sorry to butt in, but what is that white wrapper with holes in & a clone in it called ?
(Just started cloning White Widowbut putting them in a glass of ~6ph water, seems like it takes forever for the roots to start)

Also, I’ve read to mix peat-sand-some vermiculite & perlite to make a cloning soil, any suggestions ???

Just use some straight peat based mixes - like a ProMix or a Sunshine #4 - without those other ingredients.

They work great for cloning right out of the bale.

Thanks for the info…going up to Lowe’s to buy some sunshine #4 …don’t know why but it reminds me of the acid in the 70s orange sunshine came in little orange tablets.
