Generators???

Hey, I'm set up in a townhouse, neighbours on one side. My only issue is power usage. I have 8k watt setup and want a generator to hide some/all of this usage. I have had no luck trying to find a company in Canada for one partially because I do not know what I want. How do I know if its quiet, can I run a generator quiet enough not to disturb next door? I'm thinking using a room in the basement for it and soundproof it. Is it alot more expensive to run a generator for power then pay bills? what type of fuel is the most efficient for fuel? im not sure you want to run a genny in a townhouse,very expencive to use and will need big drums of fuel to keep them going.
