I need some advice with my approach here to germianation.I took my White rhino and God bud seeds and threw them in paper towel.Out of 20 seeds 18 cracked and showed root.I took them and threw them in peat pellets and keep them moist but not wet.My problem is i do not have a warm area in my suite and my place is fairly ventilated older house and the soil on the peats is fairly cool.It took 3 days for the seeds to hatch in darkness and they have been in peats 3 more days now.How long will it take for them to spring up through pellets. Also my setting is a large closet with a 430 watt son agro.Should i leave them in the dark and just wait it out or should i put them under the son agro at 18/6.Thanks for any advice.

You know, I tried all kinds of things. Now I only do it one way and it works well.
I drop the seeds in plain water and set overnight. Next day I poke at them a bit until they all sink to the bottom. Then I fold a paper towel 4 times get it wet, open it and drop in the seeds, close it and cover it. Here is the important part. I keep the seeds warm. between 75 and 85d then in a couple days they sprout. I put them in rapid rooter plugs and fill the small hole with rooter material. I keep those between 75 and 85 degrees and damp. in a week I have 2 inch plants.

Its the heat at the rootzone. not the heat from the light that works well. Then if you can maintain a 10 degree difference from root zone to canopy during veg you will have tight inter node spacing.

Young seedlings will be happy on a window cill during the day and put into ain the method mentioned below the sun has droped. Not all seeds are meant to be bro i have just had the same with an whitewidow seed from greenhouse up to this seed i had 100% success rate wih seeds.greenhouse have added a seed germanateing coating and coulouring i bought a mixed pack and only needed the widow. So i took it out of the wet papper towel and planted into compost things are happening very slowly but thing are happening. It might not make it but that the way the cookie crumbles.my advise would be to put what i call the clam method this means takeing 2 small saursers and putting the damp papper towel on the bottom tea sauser and put another the same size over the top. This will aid the seedlings in been that bit warmer you can then place this inside a plastic bag for extra warmth.Leave them has long has you can bro and if i see he slitest slit then i put my nails between and gentlely pull them a little don't pull the seed apart and it does take a little practice. If you wanted the next time you could also put the seeds in water ove night sometimes they have a little split the next day but this sofens the seed and helps germanate.keep the seeds in a cloth draw this is normaly warm or just in a room with a fire in but it only has to be teped warm not too warm.good luck don. This way of germanateing is called the clam.

Thanks for the advice. My problem is my place is well ventilated and i do not have a warm place like on top of fridge etc.The peat rounds are totally cold soil wise .when i put the seeds in the rounds all but 2 seeds had a tap root showing.I have them in the oven which is dark and it has been 5 days in the peat pellets. With the soil cold will this take longer. This is only my second grow.My Blueberry and Northern Lights #5 germinated like a snap but on top of the fridge was nice and warm.At what point do you take a seedling with a tap root and put it in a pellet. And when in a pellet do i put it under a 430 son agro. From this experience i think i'm going too eventually change too rockwool instead of peat pellet.

compete darkness untill they sprout from the jiffys and keep the temps(21*-23*).
germinate your seeds properly and you wont have a problem.
when they sprout from the jiffys just go straight to hps a.s.a.p. but be carefull with the lamp height.(i done it and it works wonders).
i will never use cfls or mh again(no need 1 lamp does all).

Decided to go out and buy a heating pad for the seeds. Now they seem too be in a warm setting.I think this will do the trick.

I realized I had a problem with cold and germinating my seeds properly. I added a hot water bottle under my germinating container. refreshed the warm water occaisionally. It made a big difference. Once in the ground, I cover the top with plastic wrap to keep the moister and humidity up for the seeds.

I also saw a germinating kit at the home center that had a heating pad that you plug in under the contains. that would work even better than a hot water bottle.

Good luck..

Germinating
Plants may have problems germinating in soilless mixtures. The top layer of mixture often dries rapidly, and sprouts may die or not germinate. Young seedlings also seem to have difficulty absorbing certain nutrients (notably potassium), even though adequate amounts of nutrients are being added. Since this difficulty may retard growth, it is best to start the plants in small pots with soil. Use eight-ounce paper cups, tin cans, or quart milk containers cut in half. Mix three parts topsoil or potting soil to one part soilless mixture. Fill the starting pots and germinate as usual. When the plants are two to three weeks old, transplant to the soilless mixture. First moisten the soil, and then remove the soil as intact as possible. You might handle the transplant like making castles, by carefully sliding the moist soil out of the pot. Or you can cut away the sides of the container while you place the transplant in the soilless mixture. When watering, make sure you water around the stem to encourage roots to grow into the soilless mixture.
Peat pellets that expand are also good for starting seedling. Plant several seeds in each pellet, and place it in the soilless mixture after the sprouts appear.

Well i have committed already too the peat pellet jiffy 7's.The heating pad i think has them in a better state .My suite is very ventilated ,older house and there is no warm spot anywhere not even on top of the firdge. My blueberry and northern lights#5 just seemed a snap for germination but this God bud and white rhino seems a bit tougher.19 out of 20 seeds are showing tap root so then i threw them in jiffy 7's and did the heat pad thing on medium.I'm hoping to have them under my 430 son agro by April 1.I wasted a week with them sitting in a cold jiffy pellets.Anyway thanks everyone for all your advice. This sight is great.

Okay well if the seeds have tap roots and they are in jiffy 7's under a heat pad.Can you put them under a hps light now 18/6.Or do you have to wait for the seed to crack away it's shell and show a little green leaf.???

did you germ the seeds then plant them in jiffys??????.
if so then you wait untill the sprout lifts from the jiffy surface before you give it light.
what does jiffy 7's mean?????.
