Germination - Dried Up Overnight

I did a Google search and found a similar thread to mine, only difference is mine seeds havent cracked yet. I just put them in paper towels last night and I woke up and the paper towel was dry. Yes I know the different ways to germinate, but I was curious as to whether or not if I re-wet the paper towel will they be good to go? They still sink in water...

Yes, you should be okay if they have not cracked and dried out. The trick in germinating is to keep the paper towel damp but not soaking wet.

Usually I soak the paper towel and then squeeze it over a sink to make sure it isn't dripping like crazy. Hopefully this isn't too much water for the seeds. I guess I am just worried... I'll just have to wait and see.

What I have done with great success is damp paper towels on a plate just like you are doing, but invert a bowl over the top of the wet towel. It will keep them damp and it gives them darkness.

More heat = faster germination to a point, you don't want them too hot. I would be concerned with anything over 95 temp wise...

I usually do put a bowl over it, thanks for the advice though. I am just hoping they still crack, but seeing as I just started yesterday I should probably wait until Thursday morning and if they dont crack I will just throw them in the soil and start a new batch and see what happens...

And just curious... is floating a seed a way to determine its viability? Just because it floats doesnt mean it will grow right? Or am I wrong and this is the law by which these seeds follow?

Good news! I just checked on my seeds and it seems like they are doing great! 2 of the 3 that I was germinating have already cracked...

my seeds float at first, then sink. Since I started using peroxide in my seed water, they all will float, then if you swirl the glass around they sink. I wouldn't go by floating or not, I would be afraid of throwing away a good seed.

Paper towels suck ass.
Drop your seeds into a small pot of spring water for 24-48 hours until you see tails starting to appear then just plant them tails down.
This is all i have ever done and it always works, don't touch the tails and be gentle, tails facing down for best results.
Why on earth would anyone want to put their seeds onto some bleached, chem filled bog roll????:o

Try to keep temp at 80 degrees. Recently, my outdoor ladies dropped seeds, they came up on their own. The temp was warm & the soil moist, but they may have taken up to a week or more to sprout. I wash the chem infected paper towel off, first, then use warm water to towel, wrap/fold it, stick it in zip lock & place in brown paper bag in warm area. Check every day. I also soak them for at least 24 hours.... in warm water.

I was actually thinking the same thing... but apparently it works for people and they get good results.

Anyways, how much water do you use in the spring water? I usually just throw it into a little shot glass of water and then once it sinks I put it into a paper towel. Or if it already has a tail after 24 hours of straight water I throw it in soil...
So you just keep it in water for like 48+ hours?

I just use an old darkened glass coffee jar and i leave the seeds in the water for a maximum of 48 hours whether or not the have tails on by that time.
Just a 3rd of a jar full of water is all i do but really it makes little difference how much water you use as long as they are covered.
I personally then plant them straight into a heated propagator in soil.
I cant seem to understand why anyone would even want or feel the need to put them in paper towels:?
