so i germinated one seed (cotton candy from delicious seeds)

this is what it looks like after it cracked



taproot is black? anyone have an explanation for this.

i've been cracking seeds through shotglass and in paper towels fine actually but have never seen something like this. it actually cracked after a few hours in the shotglass.

bacteria ate your seed, gasses released in the process pop the shell. Now only question is did the bacteria come already in the seed or did you introduce them to each other...

I like to get my planting medium moist then microwave it until steaming hot. That ensures no insects, no eggs, no fungus, and no bacteria are there to cause problems during germ and sprout. Also use tap water, with chlorine still in it to water.

oh, that's a first for me. i've been using normal tap water for most seeds. i think this is a bad seed.

okay, i decided to remove both of the husks of the shell and found out that the black part was just a coating which is part of the coatings that holds the two cotyledons together. i peeled it off and the seed embryo was white. weird, i think it was a wasted seed.

You kept it too wet and it rotted.

Try putting seeds in soil, as works in nature. Keep it damp, not soggy wet,and you will have seedlings in 3-4 days.
