Gigantic Beetle in my plant? [pics]

A couple days ago I released a dozen or so ladybugs into the closet where I keep my plants to cut down on the spider mite situation. Lately I've been examining the plants to see where they've gone and whether they're doing their job. I woke up this morning and found this beast dead on my soil.

My first assumption was that it just crawled in from elsewhere coincidentally. I don't know why it just crawled there and died though, I'm not using pesticides. I guess my question is what kind of beetle is this?
