Well about a year ago I decide to get some poppy seeds. I have never done heroin but have smoked a little o before. Don't even really know why i wanted to grow em, mostly curiosity I guess. Planted em in march and now the first one has busted open

I am surprised on the height of em, they are all about 4 feet tall.
The sprinklers actually got this one so I am waiting for others to open now. Needless to say I am hand watering my garden from here on out.
I know you can make tea from the pods but what is the best for a first time grower. I do not plan on growing these regularly and don't wanna do anything that will get me hooked. Maybe I will just let em flower out and try for more seeds even though I already have some.
Any questions or comments please?
 
hell i would be happy to have them just for the flower, it sure is beautiful! did u order the seeds online? if so where i want some :clap:

Yeah, I ordered em online. Bouncing bear botanical I believe. They seem really easy to grow and like you said the look awesome. I am gonna try some tasmanian blues next.
its funny though poppies are the exact opposite in terms of flower and veg.

so you would have less light and more dark hours?
 
my mate claims to slice the pod with a razor then puts a little bit of the sap on a cigarette and smokes it. this information is fairly dodgy though. if you new my mate u would know what i mean lol

Grew them in my veg plot one year. Persian Blues and something-Whites. Tried the cigarette paper/razor thing...it was rubbish. Scar the pods green in the morning and collect the opium later in the day is the way if i recall. I just boiled up an ounce or so of heads and had a disgusting cup of tea but a pleasant afternoon.
I found this thread looking to see if anyone had grown under lights...I've got a mate who says he has and it's worth doing. But he sounds quite like forgetiwashere's friend! lol!
 
I've seen that razor and wait method on TV, that's the way they do it in Afghanistan to make heroin/opium (there are probably 100 other steps though)
 
Anyone tried under lights? I'm pretty sure it would be legal in the UK...except from the moment you take a razor and start getting opium.
(Edit) Persian Whites...and Hungarian Blues are the strains I grew.
 
Images are very nice and impressive.
Can I get some tips to grow them in my garden or growing indoor.

mmmm i loove poppy blooms :) wait until the flowers die off and the pod swells up nice and fat to begin scoring. make a cut and wait a day. collect the raw latex, mix with water and evaporate for crude opium. good stuff.
 
Hello MnW. I've just bought a Huge Bag of these Poppy Seeds from ebay (£1.50 ($3.20ish)50 gramms), Mainly because my Mum Loves the Colour's/Plant Plus I'm fed up with all these Chemicals my Doctor is Shoving down my neck (Opiate Based Pain Killers) So i thought i'd have a go at growing a Few plus they will hide my Mj at the same time ;-)
Did you find them easy to grow? and is there anything i need to watch out for while growing? (they are Legal to grow here in the UK).

Definitely going to have to find out where to get some seeds.

Will any variety of the Papaver Somniforum produce opium?
