What was genius about gilligans island, at the time, was that it introduced millions of adolescents to satire. The show was aired after dinner but well before children's bedtime. Adults did not watch the show then. Or, the ones that did were very, very, stoned.

Each of the characters were mock-heros. Maryann was the most regular, tom boy(ish), girl-next-door archetype, so everyone loved her. I admired the professor as a kid, even though he was an idiot, just like the Howells, Ginger, The Skipper and Gilligan.

Supposedly Dawn Wells. Seems legit.
