Their theory is that racist white people on the left and right will unite around socialist economic policies and become a super majority. They want to tippy-toe around racism. This has been Bernie's appeal to the mainly young white men who support him.
Their problem is a black man who endorses Bernie's socialist economic policies won and so the tippy toe around racism part isn't going to work. I'm hopeful that Florida's demographic shift is enough to put Gillum over the Republican. The racists will vote Republican. They may be outnumbered this time. I hope.
