Glass lense+reflector question

I've never used a vented or air cooled hood before. Always open light.

Is it safe to use a hood with a glass lense without a fan sucking away the hot air?

Thanks.

my guess is no. the heat buildup will shorten the life of the bulb.if you do, remove the glass,it will block a little light so you are better off w/out it.

That makes sense. Its not like the air being vented out where the ducting goes, magically leaves the room. It would still be there, just dissipate differently.

I'm asking this because i'd like to get the tops of the plants a little cooler. In a closet+open hood temps get pretty high.

If anyone has experimented with this please chime in.

why not run a duct and a pc fan? I used to 120mm pc fans on a 400 watt light w/out a problem- it was a fairly large hood

I would if I had my own place and was allowed to make a few renovation. But I'm guerilla and have to keep it fairly low key. Id have no where to exhaust the hot air really.
