Gnat control?

If I could have a superpower (well several really) it would be to shrink myself to bug size and have amazing tunnelling and swimming capabilities (near supersonic would be nice) OH and flying too and to then zap the jebus out of the little bastards with my lazer vision and other assorted attack powers. I could do that shit ALL DAY.

what is DM???
Yep. I only use it in veg in large containers where I don't water for several days to a week. Apply the mosquito dunks, water it in, then a layer of DM (that stays dry on the surface), then sticky traps. Done. This combo has worked for me every time.

Hopefully now that I'm amending my own soil I won't have to worry about them. I swear the bags of Happy Frog I used to buy were loaded with gnats.

cinnamon????? and what does the perlite do???
Yeah they hate cinnamon. Keeps them away a treat. Perlite or sand on the top layer keeps the flies from laying eggs in the soil, sand and perlite are sterile. Perlite works best because it does not cut off the air supply to the soil, as sand can sometimes do.

In both cases, cinnamon and perlite, you disrupt the most important part of the cycle (to the fly) by preventing any eggs being laid. Larvae living in the soil will still come out as flies, but they won't lay eggs there again.
