I use very little light while my clones are rooting and they do just fine. I just put them somewhere that they receive a little indirect light. I don't see why what you're planning to use won't work. Of course you will need something better once they root.

no there r 3 different rooms . the cloning room is weak light and kept very cool with my home made water chiller . only trying to promote root growth . in the veg room i am using those phillips led tubes 19 watts each saving the electric bill big time . but if im in a rush i can click on a 600 or 1000 watt blue light seed it up . i like how bushy the led tubes are much more then the mh . i have co2 pounding in the veg as well way over the suggested 12 or 1500 pm . still pulling about 1 or 2 inches a day in growth depend on plant strain . not bad under a cheap led tubes made for garage lighting . i am all good . start my new job more then likely wed or thrusday was a stressful week . with a nice sigh on bonus .

we will see how bad or good the light is . if it were cheaper . i would throw them into the veg room let them rock . chain link 20 or so together . i will post my results in a few weeks or less how the light works .

They work very well for what they are, certainly if you are budget driven. I used a 12 outlet power strip from HF and filled it up with the same bulbs I linked above and it kept my GG momma alive and thriving for over 8 months along with multiple batches of clones in a bubble cloner.
Yeah not bad at all... They have a 15w version that does 107lm/w which is even better

Bobby was running those 15W and mentioned they get blazing hot. I can't remember if they were the Osram or the Phillips though but he said one got even hotter than the other. Either way, anything over 100lm/w is pretty damn good for store bought bulbs.

This would likely be better than that light you are trying to use.
A 6 PACK OF THESE

(they sell the 5000K if you are using the light for veg)

ONE OF THESE

Remove the diffuser from the led bulbs and screw them into the sockets. Plug the sockets into the outlets and hang the surge protector above your plant.
$30 total gets you a small cheap grow light that produces 5100 lumens and only uses 54W.
Great post bro. One quick question - Do you think those LED bulbs would provide more canopy penetration than say a T8 or T5?
I know we are talking about veg but LED generally has good penetration on COBs. I wonder if the bulbs would do better than a t5 or t8.

turned on the drop light last night . lol its not impressive at all . those led bulbs posted above will be the way to go for sure . for a cheap set up . i have those bulbs they are very bright . in my family room and out side and kitchen . the drop light is bright in a very small area but very intense . problem is its cant get the drop light far enough away to get it to spread out the light . will see i threw a plant under it lol .

I would say they are about the same. the thing with the led bulbs is that the light is more directed and concentrated than a t5/fluoro. Not so much spread/loss.

If you are familiar with the brightness of led smd's there are about 15 in each bulb to give you an idea of how bright these really are once the diffuser is off.

I bought a $1.34 one for outside from Wal Mart about a month ago. Very bright. The little light on my cell phone (flash light) must be a tiny COB.

I have 4 ladies in flower who got too tall for my ceilings. I topped them then scrogged them but I have HPS sodium with hoods. They are getting too tall again even with stuffing under the net.

I may try your set up and try to side light with HPS more.

I bought this rig today. One problem is the bulbs are too wide for the 6 socket strip at Harbor Freight. The strip can hold 3 bulbs. The lights are bright. How can you peel off the protective cover from the bulbs?

Harbor Freight had a cheap little red battery powered work light with about 8 or 10 tiny COBs. Damn that was bright. COBs rock.

You have to remove the diffuser. Most are held on with a ring of silicone adhesive. You should be able to pop off the diffuser with a small flat head screwdriver.
