As Closetgardener mentioned I would give them a good watering and then just before you go fill up the saucers with fresh water. Also move your lights away slightly (say 4 - 6 inches) just to reduce heat. That way they will drink slightly less.

I've seen those on TV it seems that it does work but never tried it, wouldn't hurt to try it out before you go.

the pots are 13 cm ht and 12 cm dia. I have it on 6 cfls (23 watt, 6500 k)
Grow area 2 ft x 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft height. Plantd are 3 inches from the lamps.

Im not confident of the aqua globes so Im going to water them before leaving but not do anything. they will be unattended for about 125 hours. Is that going to kill or stress my plants too much? Should I reduce one lamp?

Light schedule 24 hours.
Please advise.

oh yeah ... was too stoned. but actualy there is a problem.. Ive got the first 1/2 inch sand (stupid mistake). Will that work?
Actually the sand is a good thing; keeps the base/grade location dry. Everyone has already offered their advice I cannot add much. In nature, these plants experience drught and monsoons. They have survived with this factor for thousands of years. I believe it to be helpful to 'rough them up" a bit, so I believe you'll be OK, but the saucers AFTER a heavy watering will do you the most help.
Those "TV tubes" will surely work as they let water in when the surrounding area drys up. At the worst, they won't do harm...

I tried them for just that purpose and they sucked. All the water ran out of the globes in 30 seconds.
But I was using MG Potting Mix, which is real "airy". Try a test run if your soil is more compact than
mine was.

I just used the saucer idea and it went fine. When I came back, I had a lush set of plants grown several inches in 5 days. Thanks for the advice.
