Going to flower. Should I give them 24 of darkness first or straight to 12/12?

I heard that giving them a 24 hour dark period speeds up the flowering process... is it worth giving them the 24 or should I go straight to 12/12?

Another old wives tale, when I have tried it it has made no diff. at all- imo go straight into 12/12.
