Got new lights, super hot, need help!!

I just upgraded from a 120 watt normal socket light bulb to a 400 watt hps light for my 3 and 1/2 month old plant. I'm growing in a tiny closet, and it's getting way way hot. Just installed it about 2 hours ago and opened the door, and damn. lol
I tried putting a box fan in there and putting it on the lowest settings, but its blowing my plant around too hard I don't think it can take it.

Can anyone please recommend a good way to cool down my grow closet? I don't have a whole lot to spend maybe 20 bucks or so.
Home depot and a hydroponic shop are right across the street from me so preferably something from there.

Edit: There is pretty much no ventilation.

you need to exhaust the hot air and bring in fresh cool air, unfortunately $20 will not be able to solve this problem. Depending on the location of the closet you will have to come up with a solution, usually an inline fan pulling air through the lamp and exhausting outside is the setup most people use.

You may be looking for a different light or going back to the 120W lamp for the time being.

if you can leave a door open and a window set the fan blowing out the door should drop it a good bit thats all you really can do with the money you got

My AC has an output right next to the closet door... maybe I could rig up a hose system or something? If I modded the door I guess I could fix it back afterwards. Maybe a hose from the AC to the top of the door?

i was JUST in the same position your in. i was going to get a bunch of high power hps's for my closet, ductwork yada yada but i decided to go led and its the best decision ive ever made. NO HEAT, lower electricity bill, no fans/ ac needed and very stealthy....8-)

whatever route you pick to go in, until then i would go back to the 120w light your have. too much heat will hurt your plant! better it has less light then being suffocated by high temperature.

goodluck happy growing

if i was you id return that light and buy a 135w led ufo or a led panel depending on what you have money for, and continue running the 120w light you have for supplemental lighting. plus run a oscilting fan on your plants to strengthen their stems. problem solved.

thats just me tho......

$100 should get you a small used window ac if you have a window in your grow room. Or you can leave your door open and let air from the house in there. If you do that make sure to get some ona block fresh linen so you don't stink up the place. You can pick up a cannister on amazon for $11. You should always have a fan at the level of the light blowing right under the bulb to cool the air off and another one blowing hot air out of the grow area...and then another that is osilating right in front of your plants. that should cool it down enough for them to grow nicely. I know how it is being on a budget, its a hastle.

4 inch+ high CFM inline duct fan going to an out take on the top

passive intake at the bottom of a wall

only way you will ever cool a room with a 400w HID in it which is sealed in any way

also the cheapest. i'm assuming you're bumming hydro if you tossed around the idea of hacking a fridge to keep your plants cool
