Got To Have Kaya Now!

I am going to start my next grow and want to bring you along for the ride. The strain I am excited about, it is Nirvana's Kaya Gold. The name Kaya is special to me so growing a strain with that name is wonderful. It is also a good Bob Marley tune and album. I like taking pictures, so the journal should have quite a bit and be updated regularly if not too much. So with that all said, here is the first picture and the start of this journal!

Alright, last night I put two seeds in some paper towels so the germination process has begun. Once they crack and show a tap root, I will post some pics. I also gave a seed to a friend and will give two seeds to another very experienced grower on this site to grow out too. I am very excited about this grow!

Cool. Have never heard of the strain. Kaya is also the name of a really great sts9 song. I'll watch :blsmoke: What kind of setup you gunna be using?

Edit : just peeped your short Ryder journal, and if goin w the same setup - cool. Gotta love the grow tents!

They will be grown in either 5 or 7 gallon pots with probably Fox Farm Ocean Floor or whatever soil with a full, expensive lineup of Botanicare's nutes. On nice days during veg or until it gets too hot they will be outside during the day and brought in at night. Inside they will be in a 20"x36"x50" tent under a 250 Watt MH for veg and then HPS for flower. These plants tend to get tall so I am at least going to top them and might do a SCROG if I am feeling adventurous. If I can save up the funds, I will replace the light in the tent to a 400 watt, maybe even a 600 but that might be a bit overkill for the small space I have.

You should subscribe to the Short Ryder journal. Only a few weeks left so you will be there for the grand finale!

Awesome. And shiet, with it getting hotter out here as well, my temps have already been starting to go a bit higher than id like, and I got a 600 in a 4x4 tent. With a 600 in your size you'd prob need some serious ventilation lol. Anyways - look forward to the grow. Good luck!

Good luck with this one man! I have four Kaya Gold plants that are in their 5th week of life. They all germinated perfectly and took off indoors. I've since moved them outside and they are thriving out there too. I wish I would have started a grow journal on this forum so you could check 'em out. I'm not spamming, but if you want to take a look here is the link: http://forum.grasscity.com/outdoor-grow-journals/784262-carlos-1st-outdoor-grow.html

I'll definitely be checking in on this as it progresses.

Damn, both of the seeds have cracked and a tiny taproot is coming out! That was quick! How long should the taproot be before I plant them? I don't want to mess these beauties up!

I got the pots they are going in ready. They are deep 4" pots that I just got from a nursery. I thoroughly watered the pots to leach any left over salts out and get rid of any dry spots. Can you see I am stoked? Can't wait to get these babies in dirt!

Cool cool! Will be fun to watch our gardens progress alongside each other. As far as taproot size - I used to use the paper towel method. When I did I would let the taproot get approx 1/2 inch long, and then carefully transplant w/ tweezers. The reason I stopped doing that was because I read in a few places (Soma's organic marijuana book, some random HT article) that with those methods, you damage the small developing micro roots when you pull the seedling away from the paper towel. The CS & SB grow is my first from seed in a while, and this time I just soaked overnight in water and then put directly into dirt. Still though, I had great success w/ the paper towel method. Good luck getting them into soil!

The pots are ready to go. I only germinated two seeds and so far only one has cracked. Hopefully it isn't a dud. I still have my hopes up. If it doesn't crack today I will try and pop another one tomorrow. I want to get these in the dirt! I want to see some green!

I went to the garden store and bought some supplies for this grow. I bought two 7 gallon grow bags and two 1.5 cf bags of Organicare soil. Obviously I haven't used it yet, but just from filling the grow bags, this is some good stuff! The plan is to veg them for a bit in the 4" pots and then straight into the big boys! With these 7 gallon bags I should be able to grow some big plants! Can't wait. Anyways, here are a couple boring pictures of the bags full and the soil.
