Great white will do just fine in a chemical hydro set up. No problems what so ever. Great white is one of the most expensive beneficial formulas out there, but it's also some of the best quality. Even the GM sub-m and sub-b are too expensive IMO. I like the aquashield and ZHO powder from botanicare. Great stuff at a fair price, and it can be prepared EWC stlye to make the products last much longer than intended.

Beneficial microbes serve only one purpose in a chemical only set up. They displace and starve the harmful microbes and keep your roots white and stimulated. If you are prone to root problems they are a magic bullet.

If you want the cheapest possible microbe formula, get a bag of ancient forest from GH and use it to make an aerated tea. Ancient forest is essentially earth worm castings. EWC contain thousands of different beneficial microbe species. I fortify my tea with aquashield and ZHO powder, but that isn't necessary.

Here is my method, how to make microbes

Also, you said something about roots excel. This can also be added to the tea, about 1ml per gal, to supercharge it.

One last thing. I've only had slimy root problems in a DWC. In a DWC the slime is a certain death nail, however in an ebb and flow the slime shows up in the res, but since the roots sit in air most of the time, it doesn't effect them. Ebb and flow are still at risk for plain old root rot though, which is different from the slime.

Good info. great white is a great product. I have tried several and it the best. In addition to displacing pathogens, the beneficial bacteria provide vitamin b to the roots.

Slime in the dwc comes from adding sugar or homemade teas. dwc runs best with a synthetic nute.
