today's pic of the gg, I don't think she's drinking very much right now, the pot still feels a Lil heavy, but honestly after 2 days in the mail getting tossed around I really didn't expect to see any growth for at least a week or so!

OK guys the pics are kinda shitty and excuse the towels I just watered, but I wanted to show you guys how much bigger the sip pot is! all these girls had more veg time than the sip! and yet it is the only one on the ground and it's still the tallest in the room! 3 of these girls are jelly pie the others are tomahawk! I had to put small buckets under all the smart pots just to reach up to the light and yet none of them are bigger than the sip despite that!

point being you guys have to give this a try the sip are the shit!

and also the room was a lot fuller plz don't judge my grow on those shitty pics lol I just wanted to prove a point in case anyone is doubting this!

like I said I'm switching my entire set up to sip pots, Lil at a time!!!!

OK I'll start off with the basics and what I do and how I do it!

like I said I use a recycled living organic soil (I'll post my recipie below) I've had this soil for about 5 years now! it only gets better each run, so who ever says your soil is trash after one run of true organics is full of shit! I'm living proof!

not on the list, is dolomite lime, I've found my recipie must have it! and also EM1, and gro-Kashi but it doesn't go in my mix!View attachment 4226934

alright I am going to use a home made SIP pot made from a tote, I've had two runs and "experiments" with this sip pot, I think I've almost perfected it! It uses the best of both worlds! Hydro and Organics, the way it's built I get the benefits of organics which give me better terp profiles, and other benefits from the microbes and life in my soil!!! For the Hydro side I also get "water roots" which is the advantage of hydro! and this allows plants to grow much faster and much bigger in less time! Not to mention this is the absolute easiest and least work when growing that I've ever seen! I fill my rez once every two weeks and nothing else!!! I don't check any ph, I don't have to add any nutes, no top dressing literally nothing!!! I just add water and Em1 every two weeks and sit back and reap the rewards!!!

below is my new and improved sip pot, I added a Lil more room to the rez to hold more water, and I'm also putting a bunch of Tiny holes in the bottom floor so the roots can reach into the rez a lot easier!

The new pot isn't finished so I'll post pics of the old one as well!

yes I make my own ewc, and I buy bu's biodynamic compost! I use the bu's very heavy when doing the sip pots and when re amending my soil after each run! this is some of the best compost I've ever found! but it is very pricey!

Bu's is really good stuff, you ever used oly mountain fish compost? I was using bu's and it was a bit pricey, went to oly mountain for the price and really like the quality it's like black gold.
no I've actually never heard of it? where do u buy it from?

Real interesting. I take the cup in the bottom of the toat rests on the bottom of the toat, is full of compost and is used to draw moisture up into the rest of the media? How do you monitor water level? I take if you want roots in the water area you don't want to let it dry out?
I wonder if multiple small holes in the bottom of the toat with wicking strips hanging down in the water would evenly distribute the moisture. I think cotton can be used for wicking material. Maybe old blue jean cut into 1" strips.
As for water depth you could drill a hole in the side bottom of the tub and run a clear hose up the side. Wala sight gauge.

I actually plan to drill about 50ish tiny holes all on the bottom just big enough for the roots to stretch into the rez!

as for the wick, my soil does a great job, I've never looked into any other types of wicks bc well "why fix what's not broke"

and not trying to sound like a complete idiot, but I'm not following about the hole in the side?

Hey man,I like your sip build.i may venture that route someday.
I used to do veggies outdoors in 'Earth Boxes'.same concept as yours.inside the watering tube had a very lightweight plastic dowel with a piece of styrofoam on the water end of the rig.floats up and down with your water level.you could do something along those lines, mark the dowel when its dry(before your plant is in) and mark it when it's full of water.might help:peace:

Soil does do a good job of wicking. Just wondering how stagnant the wet soil will get over time. If it's working great.
For a level indicator.
You drill a small hole in the side of your res slightly smaller than a 1/4 clear hose say 1/4 up from the bottom. Work the hose into the hole say 1" it will seal because the hole is slightly smaller. Run it up the side and attach so the hose doesn't fall and siphon the liquid out. The water level will show in the hose. Makes a great level indicator for cheep.

dam I like that idea, guess I'm going to home depot! lol thanks for explaining that!

and to answer ur question/statement I'm actually not too sure about it going stagnant, and I believe this is bc of the em1, em1 is anaerobic, and I think that plays a big part!!

maybe @HydroRed could shed some light on this! I unfortunately don't know 100% how it works, I just know and see the results I'm getting! but I'd love to know the science behind it! maybe red can help us out with this!

if you look towards the beginning of this thread there's a link to my jelly pie journal! I also used a sip there, and you may be able to find some good info if your really wanting to make ur own sip!

A hydro rubber grommet will work as well.might be a tighter fit than just a hole.i did this exact thing with an aeroponics system I built(and never used).it really is a good way to show water level.those grommets are pretty easy to find, but I'm not sure if the depot has them or not.

I'll check out my local hydro store I'm willing to bet they have a few different options to choose from!

Yeah, you just drill the corresponding size hole to the grommet and the grommet snaps right into your tub.really easy and i think your results might be a little tighter.
