Grinder kief. Pollen Press. Alcohol drop?

I have alot of grinder kief and plan on using a pollen press to make hash and not just vape the kief mixed with bud like usual.

I've read that because there is alot of plant matter in the kief I should keep it in the press for 24 hours. I also read that if the puck is still crumbly use a drop of alcohol. I understand that keeping it pressed for a long time causes more heat and friction to melt the trichomes. What is the point of a drop of alcohol??

Any explanation would be great because alo of people say to do that but never say why.

Grinder kief will have a very hi percentage of fine bud. It is a better quality than the bud. But it really isn't pressing material. I don't know about the alcohol, I know it will melt the trichrome heads that are in the mix, it may be enough to hold it together.

Thanks for the reply. Since this is my first press I'll have to wait and see what happens on Sunday. Me the wife and her sister are having "concentrate day" day where we will be smoking qwiso, vape honey, and pressed hash.

Wish us luck!

I once crushed my kief so tightly in a hash maker tube thing in a vice that when I took it apart to check out my hash puck.... I had made a single drop of oil from squeezing that kief so hard (and using a little bit of heat) I wish I could have recovered that single droplet but it was all over the hash presses walls, etc...

Just take your kief ( like a 3 1/2 gram load ), put it into a cigarette celophane, roll it up tight ( a piece of scotch tape helps also ) and put in a sealed jar in your freezer. When your ready, just slice a little puck off your "freezer cannoli " and enjoy.

I press mine with a small drop of water...I live in a super dry climate so it evaporates fairly fast. It binds fairly well but will still crumble when squeezed. ..

I sometimes wrap it up tight in a small plastic bag then tighten it up in a vise grip and leave for for a few hours. Makes it easier to handle. If needed you can usually crumble it again or just smoke chunks.

I appreciate all the great information but why a drop of alcohol and how long until it evaporates? Would iso be ok or would Everclear be better?

As said before, iso dissolves trics which are pretty sticky. Myself I'd try not to use iso for this purpose, it can leave a nasty taste if it doesn't completely evaporate. It doesn't totally evaporate as easily as you would think. Even when making qwiso and evaporating for two days sometimes I can still taste residuals. A lot of people use vac chambers after evaporating qwiso.

ya vac chamber oil is so much nicer then just heat purging. i went about a year without a chamber an vac.. now that i got it . its simply so much better quality oil . all the time.

I would use Everclear, it is after all food grade. If you are just trying to create a binder with the alcohol then I would only use a couple of drops per gm.

If you want to extract the really good stuff from the kief, freeze the kief & the EC, mix to where the kief is suspended but not much EC. Agitate a little then drain through a coffee filter into a pyrex pan. Dry, scrape, & smoke.

Basically QWISO the kief in Everclear...Thats QWET isn' it? A grand idea but I'm going to press it with our new pollen press. I think will definitely use EC as a binder.

My kief has been pressed for 24 hours. 8 of those hours in a hot car. I am left with a nice little puck

What is the best way to smoke this? I would perfer vaping but I'm open to other methods.

Put it in an anitque snuff container.
brass is pleasing to the eye.
Tape that to the bumper of yer car.
Next smash your car head first into a firebrick wall.
Now light the car.
Use a chain or strap already fastened to therear axle to clear the bumper so you can quickly remove the container.
Put it in the freezer.
Use a can opener or axe (not a guitar) to remove your hash.

If it is still crumbly get drunk n smoke it anyway.

My puck is very hard and solid. I broke it in half and ground up both halves and put with some purple haze in my vape and bong. Good stuff....
