-Day #5: Seedlings are about 3 to 4 inches tall now.
I've been reading some threads on transplanting seedlings, and it seems most people get the answer to not transplant until they are showing roots. I'm in now way rushing these girls to be transplanted just wanted some info.
How do I go about identifying if the roots are ready to be transplanted and is there a rough estimate of time that it take for the root ball to be sturdy/healthy enough to move to a bigger pot? My next size pot is a 2 gal. and I have a 5 gal. I will finish them off in.

I'd wait until at least your first full set of leaves are there and are getting close to being the same diameter as the pot. Then root growth will be mostly mirroring the spread your leaves have. This is when I did it, and it was probably a few days too later than needed. This was 13 days after the plant broke the soil.

For sure, thanks for your input. I was thinking it would be atleast 2 weeks. I'll see how they progress over this next week and a half.

Day #9: Continuing to thrive
Goodmorning! Just a short follow up to the last post. The seed that I thought would struggle is actually thriving the most which is interesting. Don't understand why it's growing at a faster pace than the other one. But they're first 2 leaves are starting to grow and a shoot in the middle is forming. Super excited for this next week to come.
Still just watering with a spray bottle until the soil is moist.
Anyone have any knowledge of when these girls should get their first full watering? I'm going to look up some articles and watch vids for seedlings to see, so may just find the answer myself but thought I would ask here too. Thanks guys! Next update will most likely be before transplant.

Check to make sure your light is close enough and they don't stretch too too much more than they should.
I've always felt that this is a pretty good watering guide, but there are plenty out there.

Looking good…..off to a great start and they’re not stretching badly.
I have grown accustomed to simply lifting the cup or pot to determine if it needs to be watered. If it’s light, it needs water. If it’s heavy, I let it go. If you do it for a while it becomes second nature.
If you haven’t discovered it yet, I would add some Maxicrop kelp extract to your foliar feed and irrigation for faster root development.

I have heard 8in for seedlings as well as 24in. Right now I have the lights at about 14in from the tops of the sprouts. Is there really a right distance for this stage or just making sure they don't stretch for the light too much? As far as watering I'm just spraying about every other day with non PhD tap water that was left out for atleast 72 hours before being put into the spray bottle. Everywhere I've read about fox farms soil say that the soil itself is packed with the nutrients needed for the first few weeks and phing the water isn't necessary because the soil is already prepped for it. For sure ill look into the foliar feed. Last grow I was able to lift the pots that the clones were in and determine whether they needed water or not plus the leaves drooping, but this is my first seed grow so I'm still judging the appropriate times in this early stage.

You won't need additional nutrients for now, certainly, but I haven't used FF, so I don't know what their pH is starting off.
For light, there's lots of talk about how many inches away from the plant...but of course that differs for literally every different light there is. For seedlings it's 100-300ish PPFD. Way easier to actually measure what your light is providing (there's a handful of low cost phone apps that can get this off the ground, I use Photone) to get you in the right zone.

THANK YOU for the suggestion on the ppfd app, saves me from having to buy a par meter lol. It's sitting at about 106 from where the lights are so ill keep it at the height it's at for now. Appreciate the knowledge and response.

Photone by all measures is pretty accurate, you'll pay something like 6$ for the light profile you want, then make your own diffuser out of paper to go over your camera lens. Pretty easy to dial in your chosen PPFD and your DLI. They also have a handy online calculator where you can plug in PPFD, stage of growth, and the amount of light you're using to figure out where you should theoretically be.

Day #11: Signs of Deficiancy??
I won't be posting as much as I have been once things are better under control. Again, first time from seedling so I'm still learning.
I can tell from other pictures and the pinned thread in the newbie sections that these girls are stretching quite a bit. I'm hoping that I can just last out till the transplant so I don't have to mess with them and accidentally damage the root system by replanting them in their pots but sitting lower.
The right plant is growing at a much slower rate, and is showing a slight yellow tint to her leaves. Thought I would check with anyone who might know what would cause this if both plants have received the same watering schedule, same amount each time, and same environment. Leave it alone and see if it dies or thrives? Or is there a measure i should take to try to save it if it is starting to die?

Day #17: Tossing Her 
Well I went ahead and transplanted them in their next container and the small one I don't think will make it. When removing it from the smaller container, it seemed like it wasn't growing because the roots grew straight down and became root bound almost in a perfect circle right in the center. For some reason the roots didn't want to spread out and the picture below is how it's doing about 3 days after transplanting into larger container.
Other then that the other plant is doing nicely and bouncing back from the transplant. Just going to have to use LST and a scrog net later down the road to maximize yield.
Dunno what's causing the yellowing on bottom 2 leaves, but honestly just think it took some shock in transplant. Seems to be doing good though.
Is there any chance of starting another seed only being 2 1/2 weeks into the plant that I kept or will the time difference be too gapped for light intensity/height/even canopy?
