Grow Bright 1000w MH

So I switched to a grow bright bulb on this grow. I broke my other one. Dont ask! Could there be a defective bulb. This go round my plants are way splindlyer and the node lengths are really long between nodes 6-8"s. I kept it no farther away than 18"s. The bulb just didnt seem bright at all. I an using a xxxl 6" air cooled hood. I didnt really notice how dim it was until I put in my Hortilix hps and my room now leaves spots in your eyes when you leave cause its so bright. Are the grow brights just garbage? It did have some chunks of material floating around in it. When I start another crop for vegging I am gonna get another bulb. So are they inferior to most other 1000w MH's? My first grow went alomost flawlessly one I started adding cal mag +

I change the bucket h2o once a week

all buckets are standalone
I have kept the tds consistant with the lucas formula week to week
