Grow Cabinet Design Help Needed

Hi everybody

Been a reader of the forums for a long time, slowly gathering knowledge and motivation to give growing a shot myself.

Due to space and privacy issues, I have decided that I am going to build a grow cabinet in my bedroom.

I have attached a basic drawing of what I have in mind. Basically I will divide the cabinet into two sections - one for Clones / Seeds and one for Flowering/Veg period , both having their own seperate exhausts and intake holes.

Some other things I have considered:

For VEG/Flowering Area:- 4" or 6" Inline Exhaust attached to a carbon filter for the Veg/Flower
- LED Lighting
- 5 GAL DWC Buckets

For Seeds/Clone Area:
- CPU Fans for Exhaust
- Holes Only for Intake
- CFL or T5 Lights


I will be using LED Lights so heat is not a major problem. I also have an air conditioner in my room, so if it gets really hot I can use the AC to reduce the ambient temperatures.

Total volume of the Flower area being 100 Cubic Feet - will a 100 cfm Inline Fan be Enough?

Total volume of Clone area being approx 50 Cubic Feet - will a 40-50 cfm CPU fan be enough?

Please get me any suggestions/Feedback you may have - anything I am missing out on?

Here is a rough diagram

your intake needs to be double the size of your exhaust if u are a passive system .......so if the fan is 3 inches u want the intake 6 inches (hole size)

second thing is u want the exhaust to be across the area from the intake so the air moves all around the room cooling it off supplying fresh air to the plants........if u can add a 6 inch clip on moving fan to blow the air around u will like the results better

other thing is the amount of air u are moving double it not for the heat or anything like but for the fact the plant will react better ..............and as always if u can dump the exhaust air out of the room so u are always drawling in fresh air

as for smell controll the growing part is not anything u need to worry about it has a smell but not oh that is weed u need to worry about the flowering forsure the better u get the frostier stinkier the buds

and i get great results with this filtered intake box .................it cleans the air great so the plants do not get dust mold or smoke so if u add in CO2 it gets a better reaction

Hi, thanks for your reply. Here is another picture of what I am planning to build - changed it slightly to have the seeds/clone chamber up top.

So for the flower chamber - here are my questions:
1. Total volume of the flower chamber being 99 Cubic Feet - I am assuming a 4" 150 Cfm Inline fan should be sufficient if I wanted to use a 4" Carbon Filter? I am not worried about the heat since I will use LED, more concerned about enough air flow.

2. 4 x 2" holes for Intake are enough?

3. How many plants would you have in a 5x3.5x6ft Space?

4. Is additional Co2 really necessary if my ventilation is adequate?

with a carbon scrubber hangin above your LED your vent point will be there .........so the intake vents where u have them should work but i would increase the size to 4 inchs

your plants all depend on the strain what size pot they are in how much water and feed u give them plus skills
me ....i do autos and they can big in a 5x5 tent i only do 4 at a time other times i can run 8 or 10 plants at once.............u need to pick the strain and run it big strains 120 grams and more 5 7 gallon pot under 120 grams u can use a 3 gallon pot

oh yes Co2 is the shit if u can add it to the area the results will make u go church share with a pastor or something ...............if u like beer wine or even moonshine u can brew it the byproduct of that is Co2 and u get drink in the end
other wise u can use a tank (i am going that way soon )
