Grow cabinets

So I'm seriously debating spending money on a pre-fab stealth grow cabinet. Hear me out before you throw the "DIY is cheaper" comments my way. Stealth being key, since the rental company does their annual inspections. I like how the cabinets look, and they would fit in perfectly with what I already have around the house. Besides the usual smell/light leak problem what I'm concerned with is maintenance. I've been looking into automated PH systems, tho maybe there are self adjusting nutrient line ups I could use. So far the few that come to mind are the SuperCloset superflower3.0 at $2500 and the GrowBoxUSA Fullback at $3000.
That price sucks, I know but I need something sleek. Mother n babies are a whole other project, but that would take care of bloom.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, Thanks The early bird flies high.

It's so tempting, but so hard to justify. No cab is truly stealth. You still have 150 cfm of exhaust blowing out the back and still some smell/noise... "Hey why is that cabinet locked and have extension chords running to it and why does it hum?"

In a 24x24 space you can really only fit one small plant which might yield 2 oz every 3 months. 2 oz of weed costs maybe 500-800 bucks.. Another reason it's hard to justify.

I'm sorry to say, but I have to go with the DIY vote. The challenge is in making the doors light-tight.. I've failed at this several times.

I also rent, it's a constant cause for concern no matter how stealthy I am. It's those lovely letters that get posted to your door stating that they need to inspect for termites in 3 days or whatever...

My vote is a 2x2 tent with one autoflower and 150w of light and small exhaust system. Easy enough to hide or toss a blanket over etc.. Total setup around $400

So I have a buddy that went to one of those resale shops and bought a stand alone wardrobe type cabinet for cheap. He left one shelf near the bottom so it's split in two, large top area for flower, small bottom for seeds clones under a couple t5s. He used the foamy weather strip stuff to seal the edges/doors to make it less likely to leak smell/light. He used a clip fan, PC fans, had a carbon filter and 200 watt light. He lived in a rented house, and when land lord would come over he would just turn off the fans and plug the vents and in the short time the land lord was there, the grow would be quite and no smell. Would just turn fans back on when the guy left. So yeah DIY all the way.

DIY Vs Buy

my T5 rack hangs on counterweights in the 4ft wide closet

its taken me 15 years to get a sheet of plywood installed at waist height so I can subdivide the area ...lol

even now the space below is rarely used

however the space at waist height is tinker-ville

I'm always coming up with wonderful star trek/ harry potter inventions

to 'improve my plants germing /seedling environment

just yesterday I actually managed to re glue insect mesh to my 2 vertical pc fans in their

save my fingers later

and included a 1 pint rez in the heater box to raise that Humidity

lots of jerky tinkering, I couldn't live with out it ....lol

that's just it

DIY does save cash but as its your project ...you can tinker

at a $2500 asset ....you don't tinker

You Bitch!

Good Luck and keep your projects 'OPEN ARCHITECTURE'
