grow closet need ventilation ideas

I am starting a grow closet and need ideas for ventilation.

its about 2x5x7 with a shelf and then another 2 feet above the shelf. I am looking for ideas for ventilation.

the socket for my 400 watt hps/mh is attached to the reflector I was thinking of a cool tube but not sure how to manage that with my socket being attached to the reflector.

Its pretty warm in there I can't close the door without skyrocketing temps. Would like to lower it a few degrees

I also need to avoid modifying the building.

I also want to try to keep the cost down.

Best solution is to vent the light, it will remove a huge amount of heat build up.

To avoid wrecking the place can u cut intake/exhuast vents through the door, that way u only have to replace a $40 door later in life should u need to.

Look into cool tubes, i think you can work around your socket placement with one of these puppies.

(Not only do you need vent for the light to pull heat, but another vent set up to let the ladies breathe is required!)

ya I was thinking about cutting the door. I just don't have any tools.... I was also thinking about maybe cutting a hole into the ceiling to let air escape.

I've seen people have portable AC units vented straight in to a room via ducting before and it worked. You can adjust the timing according to how your temp fluctuates. It wil drop the temp of the air in the closet. YOu can also find some that will only turn on when the temp gets above a certain temp. An air cooled hood is best though, but if you still have high temps try a small portable ac unit. You can find them at walmart or whatever.

If you could route it in to your dryer ducting after it's filtered, that would be good. You would need a lot of ducting and a carbon filter.

hey man im setting up my second grow and its similar to yours my 400 watt pumped out too much heat so i ordered a cool tube im just going to remove socket on my ballast/reflector and wire the ballast to the cool tube. ill let you know if it works i should be getting it tomorrow. I would say you definitely need a hole in your door or maybe to save the door think about buying something like a tarp or even better black and white poly film make a door out of that push air out vent you cut and pull air in the bottom. then to make it stealthy put some wild blanket or tapestry or poster over the entire door frame thats how i might do it

otherwise you would have to keep the door open to have a chance at good ventilation. Always use oscillating fans on plants, I read if a fan is blowing in the same spot on your plants the leaves will dehydrate to quickly. you want plants to dance in the breeze while sucking stale air out and fresh air in

ya I am working on getting some different fans and trying some different fan configurations. I am trying to keep this little project under 20-30. Anyone know where they sell poly film?

I bought my thermometer today, I also switched closets to one that is about twice the size. Dropped my temps from 96 to 86. I am hoping I can get some money together for some more fans and some ducting.

poly film you can find either online or your local hydro shop
86 is better but you need to try and get it lower

sitting at 82 right now, it'll be getting cooler out soon so I am sure my temps will get lower

82 is good others would say its not but my temps right now are getting as high as 87-90 my leaves are showing a little bit of heat stress but hopefully ill be getting my cooltube, i'm expecting it today

My closet is 2x6x8 and I have a 400w hps in there as well...Prior to puting an exhaust fan in there, my temps were around 100 degrees. Before I received my fan in the mail, I cut a hole in the ceiling (to attic) and that alone dropped the temp 10 degrees. Yesterday I put my 180cfm can fan in there to suck the heat out of my light and temps are now around 76-80 depending if I am running the ac. This weekend, I am going to route the ac in that room into the closet. I will let you know what happens then.

ya cooltubes make a huge difference my buddy has a 400 and a 600 in a 8x4x6 closet with 2 cooltubes and it sits at 80. I think that is my plan for the future. I might just buy a 90$ grow tent and a cooltube in the future.
