Grow Desk Build Log

I Have one of those big metal, ugly school teachers desk where i converted the drawers into a micro grow area. But at the 9th hour getting ready to put my (hopefully) girls in there i change my mind at the last min and going to start from scratch. I Have some new plywood in the barn that i had for a year so i thought hell, why not build my own multifunctional stealth grow-box/desk that fits this room and what i need it to do for me!

This one i have in here now is just way to big for this room and i really need to get it out of here and into the barn where i can use it as a shop table. I Already started the project and have some of my pieces cut. In this room, I have this awkward little corner that's just big enough for a dresser, on the right and left side is sperated by a closet and a wall. The measurements for that area is 27" 1/4 wide X 8' h (from the floor to the ceiling) x 24" deep. I Know this is just hard to picture, but you will see as i take pictures.

I'm building the top part of the new desk 5' x 27" wide. One end of this desk is going to slide up into this awkward area and what is left sticking out will hold my 21" flat monitor, mouse and keyboard. I May build a little platform on the right side of the new desk to hold my tower (depends on how much room i have). After i get the desk part finished. I'm going to start on my stealth grow box. I'm going to build a box that is 27" wide and 24" deep that will sit up on the desk up in that awkward corner.

The grow box will go from the top of the desk to the ceiling. I'm going to build another box that will fit snug all the way around inside the grow box, accept 5" deep,.. i'm going to put small shelves to hold all my movies. That will be a "sliding door" into my grow area and i'm ging to put a key-lock hidden behind a few movies so shut tight without it moving when some gets a movie out. No one will know that something is growing behind those movies because it would just look like simple movie/game shelve!

I Know it's hard to picture and i will take some pictures of me putting that together

Sounds like you have it all well worked out.
One thing experience has taught me (because I'm lazy) it to build your space as large as you can so you don't decide to enlarge it for a 'little" more room.
However, you make this, keep in mind - things like "Will you have easy access to getting in and or around to water, etc.? If your walking or watering
is slowed up due to "awkward" fittings - kind of hard to picture right now without the photos coming.

I say this because I enlarged mine 4 times before I got it where I'm happy with it.

LOL when i first started growing (overgrow days) i built my first grow box.. Well i didn't calculate in how much head space the lights would take up so i had to modify it. I Had to modify it 3 times during that growing "season"... It wasn't the prettiest grow box, but i used it for many, many years up until i stopped growing a few years ago.

I got the desk done today, but i used up all my wood so i will have to go buy some in a few days to start on the grow box. But this will give me time to collect some black walnuts from 1 of my trees so i can get my walnut stain made. But here is some images of what it will look like when everything is done.

Just wish i had better wood to work with. All that was pieces saved from another project. I Didn't have a piece big enough to go all the way down on the back of the desk... So i had to brace it up to keep it from flip flopping around back there.. I'm going to replace that piece once i get the wood to make the box and i'll just get an extra sheet to fix that, but that will do for now.
