Grow house security advice

I'm a novice grower, but I do know a thing or too about how to secure a house, and more specifically grow houses. I've done work with a contact on his grow house and wanted to help you protect your grow. First, lets start with the obvious, doors. When choosing a door, choose a solid wood or steel door. Before installing it, drive 3 inch screws into the frame to hold it down. A lot of burglars destroy the frame rather than work through the door. Next fortify the hinges by choosing strong hinges and putting at least five wood screws into the hinges, if need be drill holes, and choose screws with wide heads, or add a washer. Finally, put a high quality lock on the door. The best bang for your buck is ASSA locks, they cannot be bumped or picked easily as their are complex and rather rare. Installing them upside down makes them extremly to pick. Next, windows. Make sure they are well installed. Another good idea is to have windows made from a tough material such as polycarbonate, it also reduces heating costs. Side doors and back doors should be extra secure and be bolted shut and fortified, although lock quality doesn't matter. For patio doors make sure they don't break easily and block it with a 2*4 at all times. Before we address the inside of the house, here are things to further secure the outside. Floodlights near the garage and all doors (except the front). Keep the front trimmed make sure their are no bushes or treesthat obscure your view of the street (not all, but try to limit them), short grass also helps as it helps blend in with neighbors. A security company sign is also a good idea next your front door. The back should be fenced in, with a privacy fence that cannot easily be climbed. The gate should be difficult to open from the outside (this is up to you on how you do it.). Finally, you should disable garage doors when you are not going to use them. It's relatively easy to get in though their, just unhook the door from the belt and attach it to the ground and park outside if possible. That was a general overview of outside security now onto the inside. I cannot state this enough, no booby traps. They are illegal and if poorly executed, they will kill you. Hiding your grow room is vital. Saferooms are ideal as they often hidden and underground,if not try to keep your grow room in the basement or away from the street and neighbors. Make sure that no light leaks out and that it locks, but doesn't appear out of place. Put down sealing tape around the door to stop leakage. Insulate the walls and cieling from the inside and put down fat max or a similar insulate mat around the room to make sure heat light and sound don't escape. The police can use thermal imaging and if this is not well done, they will detect a massive-heat signature. When exhausting this air, get it far away from your home, preferably underground. To reduce pests get a cat to kill rodents, as they often carry mites and other plant harming insects, preferably an outdoor cat. As for dogs, that's up to you.
Most of all meet and greet neighbors, be nice and participate in their suburb bs. Most importantly join or found a neighborhood watch type of organization. It will help integrate you and will protect ur grow house from thieves. This is just a quick overview and if you need details or more info just post and I will try to answer your question

#1. Don't tell a single person. If you have to, rather you than me.
#2. Don't get complacent.
#3. See #1.

Two most popular ways of getting caught - loose lips, betrayal and getting complacent. Ok that is three ways, but we'll call that buy 2 get 1 free.

We'd all love to brag and tell the world around us how awesome our own grown weed is, but if you can't resist that urge the timer starts ticking and it won't belong before you have an arsehole like a boy scout.

Vast majority of those who get caught bring it on themselves, either through betrayal, or just good old fashioned not fucking thinking.

The grow I secured was also in a good neighborhood, but he was worried someone might follow him home. What I described is really for commercial residential grows, he's using at least 2000 watts of hps lights. I didn't really ask about his grow, the closest I got was in the door, putting a bolt and extra locks behind the fake wall.

If you need security then your a muppet for setting up there in the first place. A good safe grow is in distinctly average area in a normal house with normal people. befriend the neighbours, act normal and they will be your security. Make sure you make friends with the nosiest bastard on the street he will be your best asset, pop in with a few beers now and then to get the low down. You never bring buyers to you grow house.....ever.

Thats all fine and dandy until it happens. The person mentioned in this story, he got robbed and he took countermeasures just like the ones you listed. Why else overkill security? As for not bringing buyers home, it's called being followed/tracked. Even a punk could rob your house and steal all your weed after finding it. All the security in the world won't work if you can't keep a low profile, but a low profile won't protect you from everything. Together they work perfectly.

With respect, nobody is following me home. I only meet with one person in the chain and I trust him. He knows if I get rumbled it's down to him. Only I know where my grow is and I make damn sure I keep it that way. Sloppyness, smells, loose lips or crappy systems get you caught. Granted, there is no seurity against opportunist thieves. I also move grow every 9-12 months and Int gonna go to town on security to leave behind on a rented property. That said, I do get where your coming from.

I'm a caregiver, my grow is the basement of our house. Moving my family isn't really an option.

1. Grow is on a need to know basis. Only a couple very close friends outside of my patients know of the grow
2. Patients NEVER come to my home other than 1 I have known forever. He's also very wealthy and disabled. He has no financial motive and physically couldn't. My kids also refer to him as Uncle
3. Bars on all basement windows
4. Only access to basement is via 2 doors. Both have deadbolts and alarms
5. Motion detecting lights
6. 3 camera system that can transmit to our cell phones
7. Rooster in the backyard
8. Very protective, loud and intimidating dog
9. Sign on front lawn from security company
10. AR-15 and Ruger .45 for me, .380 for the Mrs

I go to extra lengths, this is our home. No one is gonna hurt my family trying to steal what is our source of income. Everyone that knows me also knows that. You better come with a fucking tank, if not you won't be going home

Exactly, grows move often, but some people can't do that. What i described can protect anything inside a house, not just weed. .45 is a solid choice, but I'm more a 12 gauge slug kind of man myself. I also have an old .22 and a Remington 787 (cheap but accurate 700 copy). Rooster? You guys like waking up at sunrise, ;)?

This was more aimed at people who were staying permanently. With all due respect, how do you ever know no one has followed you? And there is security against opportunists, stick up a security company sign in you lawn, trust me most people will stay the fuck away. You should also trim and clean the front of the house, make sure no one can hide and work up to the house. Dude I'm sure run a tight ship, I mean no disrespect if I came off as cunty.

i use dogs too. i have a 10x 12 grow room in my backyard and i dont even have a locking door knob on it or anyother locking device for that matter. what i do have is a 100lb boxer Rox, and an American Pit named Dre. its all i need to keep my family and property sare. they are not trained gaurd dogs at all, but just naturally protective when they are in the yard.

The OP seems to be talking about more commercial grows ... actually renting a property purely for a place to grow weed on a larger scale. On TV the other night every police raid they did on 'cannabis farms' was on people who were doing exactly that. But then, the police are always more interested in the commercial/larger growers as that is considered organised crime ... not once did they send the troops into a house and bust someone with a little grow room.

With such an international presence on these forums I know the laws and policing vary wildly. I'm lucky in that my local police are pretty chilled, they're not really spiteful and will do their job of course (bad news for us), but they take a tough stance on the commercial growers, but the odd guy that gets busted around here for his own little grow room the courts don't seem to give much of a fuck tbh, I'm talking fines less than £100 ($150 US?) and little else - unless you've got previous etc. Hell, around here if the police stop and search you and you have a score of hash etc, you're likely to get an on the spot fine of £80 ... and it doesn't even count towards a criminal record. Much better than being dragged to the dirt and treated like a serious threat to law and order.

Am sure there are some more commercially oriented way (in it mainly for the money), and there are people who just like to grow their own and maybe a treat for a couple friends to smoke. Theres no denying there is great profit potential from growing, but its like everything else there needs to be context ... sorting out some good mates so you can sit, talk shite, and chillax, is vastly different from, pump it up, bag it, send it out to the street for max profit, repeat etc. Only stoners understand what other stoners mean when they consider it medicinal as well as recreational. People in suits who simply read about it will never understand.

Cannabis use has been proven to increase the intelligence of those who oppose its legalisation. (forgot where I read that, but I thought it was nicely said)

All dogs bite people. I know that but I heard that its hyped up. I know people with pit bulls and they are very friendly, compared to smaller dogs. I have a scar from being bitten by chihuahua on my ankle and it's been for a couple years now. You should know what your talking about if you are going to comment.
