Grow Locker (Drip Hydroponics w/ CFLs)

Hey this is my first post and was looking for any tips, pointers, etc. for my first indoor and first hydroponic grow. I have grown around 20 plants outdoors, and have been successful, but I know indoor growing is a whole 'nother game! :D

Now here's the catch, I am looking to grow in a locker, 7 ft. tall, about 1.3 ft. wide, and 3 ft. long. in order to keep this little personal venture out of the prying eyes of house guests.

This is my first indoor grow but I've made an attempt to do as much research as possible and will continue to do so as needed.

Here's the hydroponic drip system I was hoping to use:
Lets Build a Bubble Bucket *Step by Step* - Grasscity.com Forums
(sorry to link off to Grasscity :X)

For that hydroponics setup, I may need to slightly slim down the bucket gallon size in order to make it fit in said locker (would this be a really big problem?).

Now I plan to grow either 2 or 4 plants, and I want to use the flowering light schedule 12/12 as early as possible so I can sex my plants. I am using bagseed (parent's buds were very dense and nice mids) for my first indoor grow, that's why I want to sex my plants as early as I can so I'm not growing a shitty male in there any longer than needed. How early can I do this? Should I wait for the plant to be at least X inches high?

So as for the light setup, I plan to use a hanging CFL fixture (to position it at the right height above the plant at all times). I will use 3 CFL's for vegetative state, and stay with 3 for the early flowering plant light schedule. But later on I will upgrade to 6 CFL's per plant when they are flowering.

Now for ventilation. Smell isn't a huge problem, but I plan to use a carbon filter system just for some experience with this. Do I have this right, the carbon filter must covering the exhaust hole completely, and have airflow moving the air through it? Also, how should I go about setting up air intake in order to supply continuous fresh air?

I think that covers most of the basics for a thread starter ;]

I would really, really appreciate any help. I hear hydroponics is not a good way to go for your first indoor grow, but I really want to jump into it, learn from my mistakes, and hopefully by some help from you guys maybe not fuck it up the first time!

For hydroponics you mean? It might be too small for that but I could definitely get a potted plant system going in there for sure.

that is a tiny space to work in but it should be enough since its 3 feet deep. ventilation and heat will be a problem depending on where you're located geographically - you'll have to cut a hole for an intake and exhaust to keep air moving. hydro will complicate it significantly considering this is both your first indoor and hydro grow. cfls will work best in there - cover the walls in mylar, get a lot of cfls, and get fresh air moving through there from bottom to top and you should be alright. good luck

anything is possible.

i dont think its that small for a hydro system....you could setup a 1 or maybe 2 plant system

scrog em!

Thanks QuantumFizz and LoudBlunts, I appreciate it.

I was planning on using hydro since it has a shorter harvest time. That was the main advantage for me. How much time will be cut off harvest-wise if I use hydroponics?

Is it not ~70 days hydroponics and ~120 days for potted plant?

haha i have small plants going in my old sports locker in my room, complete stealth from my roommates (parents l o l.) i think you can get it goin as long as you can put a fan in there and keep it vented. gl!

No you have to attach it an inch or two away from the exhaust hole trust me i are a doctor.id use the biggest computer fans i could find

i agree with wolfman split into 2 chambers i have done hydro once ebb and flo really easy no problems what so ever(had ph & ppm meters) and since you have such a small space u can flower on top and bottom (12/12 from seed or veg then flower) or you can find a nice strain and mother it on the bottom and flower on top and 4 the hydro set up you can put the res on the very bottom run a tube to the top chamber pump nutes to the top and the drain goes to the bottom chamber and that drains to the res its all your choice just my opinion good luck ventilate

Wolfman, in fact I have.

The whole "grow locker" idea is out because stealth isn't as much of an issue. I wanted the area I was growing in to be compact, but it seems as though my attic is a good fit for this operation and space isn't in issue.

Basically, I am using 2 bubble buckets like I said, growing in a 2 door cabinet with CFLs.

I am growing Jamaican Haze and a Purple strain. And I have plenty of these seeds, so no I'm not putting them to waste per se if I fuck up.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll make my best attempt to keep you posted.

That cab is EXACTLY the same size as mine and its split into 3 chambers.
1st is flower - 1-2 plants
2nd is clone / mother
3rd is scrubber / power blocks / airpump / comp ps / anything giving off heat
