Grow Newbie please help.

Hey guys new to the community hope you can help me through my first few grows.

My Setup: "Grow Pc" idea
Speak Box
Lined with reflective material
Computer fan as intake for air
3 little smaller fans as exhaust
2 Ge 12" fluorescent lights up the side
100 watt Philips color tone flood yellow
or
100 watt blue colored light made for plants
2 Philips 60w natural light plus in the top corners


Notes: I have a 400 watt hps light but do not have a ballast to use for it yet.
Will be putting in temp and humid. gauge
PH and Moisture gadget in the soil looks like meat thermometer

Should be posting pictures in the next few days when it is complete.


Anyone have ideas or criticisms that I should know about before I finish I am open ears.

Sounds like your off to a good start. And I would use the Blue Spectrum lights for vegging.
And the HPS might get to hot for a speaker box. IMO.

Thanks for the advice. I was just going through some forums on here and read that those lights are terrible for growing? Should I just get a few more fluorescent to put in its place?

Alright, just got the box set up at about 3 in the morning. I will be posting pictures tonight, but I am running wire through my house and putting an outlet where the box will go and will take them when it is completely finished. Have some questions however:

The exhaust fan has had almost like a burning odor. Is this normal? It is just a computer fan hooked up with a phone charger. o.0 volts and amps are equal to what it would receive from the mb.

There is a little light peeking through were my door is. The seal is just not that great, it is on hindges and just where the wood is not perfectly true a little light peeks out. Is this something to worry about?

Just planted the germinated seeds last night when I put the box in my room, how much water should I be giving it?

Changed the lighting from my original post. They are now under (2) 100 watt cfl's (2) 60 watt philips natural light plus in corners, and (2) 12" fluorescent lights running up the sides. There is the two fans as well.

Just curious how much power will this take up for my home? Will my bill jump notably? How big of a fire hazzard would this be if at all if hooked up to just the normal everyday home light socket?

Any suggestions please post!

replace the fan if it keeps smoking

box must be light proof

keep soil moist but not soaking wet for the first week. then start a regular watering schedule where you let the soil dry out before watering.

not much of a jump in electricity - about 60 cents per day.

fire hazard depends on the capacity of the line and circuit breaker. but you're really not adding much electricity so no problems.

Wow thanks. The fan is not smoking but rather just smells like its burning or something? Its weird. I am pretty confident that's what it is. I will replace tomorrow when I get payed o.0
