Grow room

Hello people.

I decided to take the plunge, with very little money to spend, to build a grow room. All together, this cost me $250:

Exhaust fan - $25 fan for a bathroom:

The lamp is fluorescent, with two T8 3500 and two T8 4500. I know fluorescent sucks for flowering, but I simply do not have the money to spend on a 400w HPS. Perhaps someday I can move the 4' fluorescent over and build a two chamber room. BTW, the closet is 8'x2'

I grew up in the Virgin Islands, and have one close friend who has been growing since we were kids in the late 80s. Typically he runs three fields of 500 plants apiece. He is mailing me his best strain, "Berry Best," for me to start growing with.

I can't wait!

Thank you for letting me be part of this forum.

NuTone Basic. $24.95 at Home Depot. It moves 70 CF per minute. Of course I had to cut a hole into the attic, but no one can get up there without emptying the linen closet.

There is also one other fan, a regular 1.5' x 1.5' window fan to blow air across the plants.

It is dumping into the attic, but no one ever goes up there. I can't even afford to run a tube to vent it.

Hey. Have ya got anything under em yet?
I do have one bag seed plant that I was growing outside. I had to make a trip this week, to see a family member with cancer, so I watered it well and am hoping it will be alive when I get back.

Some time in the next two weeks I expect the good seeds to arrive, and I will post progress as it happens =)

After spending a week away from this, without watering it, the bag seed seems to have survived, although I had to take dead leaves off of it and it is very stunted in growth for a 25 day old plant:

I have to call my friend tonight and ask him to send the seeds I really want to plant :)

twelve days later and the plant is doing much better:

I have decided to modify the fluorescent light. I am going to add 10 42w CFLs to it, to bring the total wattage to 548 and about 4500 lumen per square foot. I will drill holes large enough to mount light bulb sockets, and I will post pics of the results here in about two weeks.

Sounds like you got a plan, good luck and welcome.

I would suggest investing a little into good soil, if you can. It made a huge difference for me.

you might want to rethink this one just a little based on the experience I had. You will either be growing mold or condensing water in the attic. Telling my wife we needed to replace the ceiling tiles anyway, when the condensed water rained into the family room didn't work real well. You can't afford not to. VV

Thanks, I did not think of that - so I will be running a duct to the bathroom vent.

After reading quite a bit here (including Humboldt's account of growing with CFLs) I have changed my mind. I am going to go with four 4' 32w T8 at 5000K that produce 3050 lumens each and 28 Walmart 26w CFL's at 2700K that produce 1750 lumens each.

Here is a little math:

Total lumens: 61200
Total wattage: 856w
Covers a 4' x 2' area
Total lumens per square foot: 7650

Cost: about $175

I am waiting for a check that should arrive in the next few days and I will be going forward with this at that time.

Due to the amount of lame ops on the IRC channel, I will no longer be posting here.

Plain and simple: fuck your lame organization.
