Grow Set Up Please let Me Know What You Think!

Alright i'm going to be growing in an apartment closet under a 400 w hps and mh system, mh during veg and hps during flowering. I'm going to use a 6" 240 cfm fan for the air to come in, and another 6" fan with carbon filter going out, i need it quiet so im going to but them in a box w/ sound deafening material. Im going to be using soil to grow and want to grow 2 or 4 plants in the same tent.
the tent demensions are: 24" deep by 48" long by 60" tall, how many plants do you think i could fit in here and what strains should i go for?
im thinking of going with one of the pacage deals from nirvana either the one with rasberry cough and black jack or white widow and white castle, i want to top and get 4 main colas with a moderate flowering time so if you know any good strains please let me know.:?:
I'm going to try the growing solutions soil and flower tabs from nirvana for nutrients ive heard good about them.
This would be my first ever grow so let me know what you think and what i should change if anything and what soil to use, Thanks Would love feedback

Don't use the MH bulbs if you have glass enclosing your hoods because it defeats the purpose of using the MH. The HPS has more light output and will take you complete through seed starting, veg, and flowering. I can post all of the details of why MH isn't going to give you as much light output if you'd like to read a small bible for a response or you can take my word for it. Make sure you get a lower CFM rated fan for your intake with a more higher powered fan pulling air out of your space, you want to ensure that you are creating an "air vacuum" inside of there. Remember to start flowering when the plants are 1-1.5 feet tall as they can easily triple in size and take up your space. I would also recommend that you research into the SCROG method because of your limitations on pots etc. Make sure you invest in a good hygrometer/thermometer combo to get your temps and humidity dialed in. If you can maintain those at optimum levels throughout your grow then you are definitely going to be on track. I wish I could share some insight on soil growing but I'm strictly H20, I will say that an investing in a good reverse osmosis system was the best choice I ever made for my soil plants around my domicile to my hydro setup! Good luck!

yeah ive jus been reading more and more on RIU and im going hydro and ive been looking up and people are saying use CMH bulbs but im thinking about ust going hps all the way though alson changed my fan options as ive read and my friend did scrog and ive read up on them and im absolutely going to do one, i've decided to use a waterfarm and drill more holes in it for roots, i read all of SCOTTYBALLS thread on the waterfarm pineapple express grow and how he only used Flora nova boom start to finish and used a CMH all the way through with huge yields i'd love to do this both because hps bulbs get hot and i dont have a way of sending the exaust outside but just in a room, the new fan im looking at is a 6" 435 cfm fan and im gona put a carbon filter on, the fan is only 70 on the site i found compared to 120 for the same fan. i need to keep temps down but would like to keep it at 400w. do you think i should go with this set up and grow 1 plant from it and use SCROG? and i sont yet understand ppm in fertilizing, i looked through many posts and the vocab section but i stil dont understand and wit hydro's do i eed to replenish the watter everyday? can i just mix nutrients ad water before hand and just pour in when needed so i can have it planned out? any feedback is help, thanks

First, MH works fine behind glass.

What you have will work great, but make sure work on a way to cool the lamp. It will get hot in there and could cause you problems. I know you said you are bringing in air but you need to funnel air right to the lights. I run from my carbon scrubber, to my light to my fan which pulls the air instead of push. More efficient.

I would retain the fans you have to bring in fresh air for the plants. This is also an effective way to cool the room or the lamp if you bring in air from outside.

Don't get too crazy on your first run. Start with something like Sunshine mix#4 as your soil. Pick a brand of nute you like and stick with it at first. There is a lot to learn about growing, youre going to make mistakes, and throwing money at it doesn't always help. Start with clones if you can get them, seeds can be a little tricky. But if you go with seeds, go for an Indica or hybrid at first. They flower faster and are a little easier. Sativas can run long and big.

As far as number of plants I would stay around 6 in 1.5 gallon pots, but that's just an opinion. Even 18 inch plants need a lot of space for side growth, plus you can practice bending your plants for max coverage. I would suggest researching Uncle Bens topping technique if you want to do something cool. It will teach you how to split plants into multiple colas, but you need a lot of space for that. In your grow area, you should look at SCROG's or SOG's, but for the first run just learn how to grow, how to diagnose problems, how to feed, etc. It can be stressful to arch your babies die over simple problems.

Read as much as you can, and search around here. Anything you would need to know is here. Read a couple grow guides, not so much the grow journals. The difference is the grow guides are generally agree upon by the community, but anyone can post anything in a journal.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks ive looked at the uncle bens topping for about 2 days reading through im justnervous i'd screw it up and SCROG would be easier.

Letting the plant grow like a spike is easiest, I would say LST next hardest, trimming and topping next, then The SCROG'S/SOG set ups, then more advanced methods like DWC, hydro, etc.

so do you think i should just try to top them i'd reallylike to do SCROG just for the yeild, im going to try to pic a high yeilding indica and do something to it

Depends on how strong you feel about your understanding of SCROG's. If you get it, try it, but there is a little more work to those. Lot of weaving, two different environments (above the plant and below the plant) to maintain, and a little more difficulty in trimming, but definitely more yield and a better utilization of a small grow area. I want to try one in a future grow under my T-5's

topping them makes the grow last longer.

if you don't have a problem with waiting a bit then go ahead. each time you top it expect about a week delay.... the thing has to heal, and start growing again....

Standard SOG says 32 plants @ 4 per sq ft. You should be fine with temps. I run a 400w MH in my veg cab which is 2'x2-1/2'x5' and my temps are steady 77f. 2 computer fan exhaust and a 6" clip on fan attached to reflector blown air between lamp & canopy.. My flowering tent is 4'x4'x6.5' and iv got 2-600w HID's in there with no issues @ all.
