Grow tent and questions about, carbon filter, fan and lights.

Hello

I have two grows under my belt, wonderful ones with good results but that was a few years back when space wasn't a problem for me.

Now that i have moved into an apartment i dont have anymore the luxury to grow something without being cautious about odor and sutff.

Im contemplating in buying a grow tent, a 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m sized one.

My first question rose about the the temperatures that i will get in such a tent. I will use a 400W HID and the tent will stay in a room with temperatures up to 24 Celsius degrees.
Will my tent do get to hot? Will i need to buy an air cooled reflector or just the extractor fan will do its job and keep the tent cool?

And now for the size of the carbon filter and the extractor fan. I know that i need to multiply my tent size to get the total cubic meters but then? Do i need to multiply it again? Al i got is a 2.88 cubic meters for the tent i want to buy, this need to be multiplied with 60 perhaps? So in one hour to exchange the air 60 times?

What fan size? I read about that the fan its not good to be more powerful than the carbon filter can take but there is any problem if the filter is much bigger than the fan rating?

Can anyone help me please with this numbers? What size/ratings i need on a filter and a fan for the tent i mentioned?

And last but not least, do this carbon filter really do the job? If i will have guests over the place will they be able to sense anything? Im planing to grow 4 plants in 20 liter pots in that tent.

Thanks anticipated for your help guys!

Have you considered an LED light (not the cheap crap) Could help with the heat issue. Just bought one for the same size tent.

Well from what i have heard, if i buy a 400W draw power LED will generate almost the same heat as a 400W HID and some say that they dont have a better penetration power than HID. I heave not read too much regarding LED nowadays and this new kind of generation of LED are very expensive, cant aford. What kind have you bought, how many real wattage?

Its 288 watts at the socket but that energy isn't wasted on spectrums of light the cannabis plant doesn't use. That's the advantage over HID. More efficent
Watt for watt. Mine comes with a five year warranty and an incredible 90 day money back guarantee. They will actually let you do a full grow then decide to keep or not.

Yes carbon filters work.
If noise is a concern a silenced fan with a speed controller is worth the extra money- these are not cheap but worth the money IMO.

@Lucky Luke, i know 600W it would be much better but my balast is a dimable 150/250/400 and 400WSL(super lumen) so i would need to change all my set up that i have now. I will spend a lot on the tent, fan, filter and i cant spend so much money.

But hey, look at the attached pictures. Those are 2 LSD plants from Barney's Farm and the smaller one is a Dinafem Cheese. The biggest LSD was 1.60 meters high, sativa phenos and look what buds i had just under a 400 watter, and on top of that, the space didnt even had reflective sheets just on one side. I think in a tent i wont loose so much light and of course that i will grow smaller plants, i like indicas.

Ok so you say the filters work but do they take care of all the smell so i wont mind if someone is visiting me?

@1st unique, i will look into those LEDs right now.

2x4 tent, 400w convertible bulb , 12 plants crammed, vegged too long, wouldnt change a thing.
dont over think this, buy a kit,= tent, fan, can, light and never look back. htg.

- Carbon filters work Great. You can count on them to do the job.

-a small, 6 inch, 240 cubic feet per minute, 65 watt, $35( thirty five US Dollars) " Duct Fan" or "Booster Fan" will work Great for your tent. It moves enough air and is very quiet. A true 6 inch inline fan is very noisy.

-you'll want a 6 inch carbon filter to match your fan. It doesn't have to be 4 feet tall, but bigger is better. Set your small fan to pull out of the tent and push through the filter. Bigger filter means more time for the air to pass through, and more smell removed. Bigger filter also lasts longer.

-with just a 400 watt light, and the tent vented and Room temperature good, your temperatures should be fine. Unless the tent is in a very small room.

I was hesitant to use a tent at first but I've grown to find them chill.
I'm currently using a 1m x 1m x 1.5m tent with a 400w digital ballast running HPS right now. I'm also using an air cooled hood with a 4" inline fan and carbon filter.

I typical have temperatures in the 22-26c range but without the fan it would be too hot. With tent, ballast, hood, bulb and fan it'll be around $350-$450 US so since you're using the Metric system I'm assuming you live outside the US so your cost will probably be more than here.

I typically harvest a half pound (226 grams) of bud per bloom cycle but it can be more than that quite easily with a little more trying with well vegged clones or seeds.

A 400w will do just fine.

Hey

Yeah im from Europe. I already have my ballast and bulbs as i grew in the past but back then i had plenty of space but now a tent its a must.

Dunno the full costs, a good tent i can find is 130USD, air cooled hood 110USD, carbon filter 60 and an inline fan about 80-100. About 400USD, pretty much but thats it.

There will always be an increase in temps when your lights on, the issue you have is your starting point of 24 degrees.
Measure your temps hourly to find out when the highest temps are and work your lights on period around that.
The more you exchange air the less the temp rise will be. Most grow room calculators work on the basis of air exchange for keeping co2 levels optimal. But they don't tell you have many degrees the temps will rise from ambient with X or Y lighting.
The best thing you can do is use a bigger fan and filter than required and a variable transformer speed controller, that way you have the power to exchange more air if needed. Even better if you have a temperature controlled speed controller but they aint cheap.
An air cooled hood does make a lot of difference with HID lighting and its an option if needed.
Luke up there is from OZ and him and his fellow growers can manage their environments fine so I'm sure you can do it.

Oh and don't cheap out on carbon filters, you want quality like mountain air, rhino, phresh. Don't bother with a cheap one, that's not where you want to be cutting corners.

Phresh are great filters. I have a Micro Grow (1 plant) going so I picked up their 4" shorty filter and a 4" inline fan from Amazon (Hon&Guan 4 Inch Inline Duct Fan), definitely get a fan speed controller, helps with noise. The combo is great, I'm in week 8 of flower, growing Locomotion(so stanky) and I can't smell a thing. The fan has been running for about 3 months non-stop with no issues. Good luck to you! Pics attached (1st pic is prior to sealing old fan exhaust hole)
