Grow Tent , Cool tubes and Exhaust mismatch - Please advise

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased this tent from Amazon at a great price but there is a mismatch with the lighting. This tent is 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep so in total we have 8 sq ft; according to common knowledge the optimum lighting for any grow space is 50W per sq ft so a 400W light would suit this space perfect since 8sq ft X 50W = 400W. The tent has 4 inch holes all throughout for ventilation and exhaust. Searching through out amazon and other websites for a 400W MH/HPS I could NOT find any cool tube or anything that had a 4 inch fitting, seems as though all the 400W and up cool tubes and reflectors have 6 inch fittings; so now I have a 4x2 tent with 4 inch exhaust holes but no 4 inch fitting 400W light to go with it, unless I make the 6 inch cool tube somehow fit with the 4 inch exhaust holes in the tent. Someone needs to inform the tent making people that a 8 sq ft tent needs at least 400W and they do NOT come in 4 inch fittings. Would anyone have any suggestions as to how to proceed or know of any 400W+ cool tubes with 4 inch fittings or maybe make them fit into each other somehow? Thanks for your time everyone, please don't be shy with your thoughts, sharing is caring.

Regards,

AWnox

Thanks for all the replies everyone, question though; would this adjustment have any negative effects as pertains to air flow and air pressure? Shouldn't right?

im sure its going to effect a little bit, only because the reducer is going to decrease airflow a little bit obvisoly going from 4 to 6 inch. i wouldnt worry about it though unless temps are high or something

Yeah I figured that much as well. Now for the setup part of it;

would it be in this order from left to right?:
-Filter
-duct
-cool tube light
-duct
-exhaust fan
-duct
-tent hole

BTW THIS fan filter combo has 77 db sound emission, is that too loud?

your fine everything looks good, the increase and decrease due to cooltube and reduces will be very slight as far as fan performance just get the highest rated 4in can fan you can afford and you should be good

Thanks for the reply LT; I read here that it would be better to have one inline fan for the filter and one separate for the cool tube? This sounds like the best way to go but damn if it isn't the most expensive; would it be possible to just have one 400 CFM taking from the carbon filter > cool tube > fan > outside ? so the air would be taken from inside the tent taking out the smell and then passing through the cool tube cooling it off then ending up outside after the inline fan?

Space is 2x4x5 with a 400W.

im sure it is. my space is 33 wide 63 long 20 deep (in inches) and im wondering if a 4 inch fan is good enough to attach the filter and the cooltube at the same time and vent out.. do you know?lol i got a 400w as well.

We got almost the same setup bro! I got a 60 inch high x 48 inch wide x 24 inch deep; I think I might be going with a 6 inch fan better man, like this one:http://www.amazon.com/Earth-Worth-Filter-Combo-Hydroponics/dp/B005XZ24LK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3TDKAJ1X099RZ&colid=2XYBSWNV5Z39R . I'm trying also to have it cool the cool tube and filter the smell at the same time. This one that I put the link too has 400cfm which is alot more than the 250cfm of the 4 inch. Might be better since we're trying to do two things with just the one fan and it's only 40$ more than the 4 inch....tempting hu?

I pondered the same problem, before I set up my system. I am using 2 hoods, and a 8' inch filter. Since my hoods were 8' cooling I just wanted 1 fan to run my filter and cool my leights. Check out picture. i have a 8' filter, with a 8' 750cfm fan on top of filter sucking air through filter, through lights and out tent. Can't smell a thing outside of my tent. And it keeps 2 600 hps cooled, my lights on temps are in the 70's.

That's EXACTLY what I had in mind Reloader thanks for the image , it makes it a lot easier to visualize it now in my tent how it would work for me. If your 750 CFM cools two 600W's then I would imagine the a 400 CFM would handle a 400W and a filter just fine right?

I know it says that's in all the models for some reason but if you read lower in the product description it says:

"What makes the Earth Worth 6" Inline Fans and Charcoal filters so special? Quality and dependability. Earth Worth engineers have selected only finest quality components to make this the best inline fan and filter combo on the market. Inline Fans, in conjunction with our Carbon filters help purify the air in your growing environment and prevent build-up of moisture and odors. You can also use your fan connected to the lights to help cool the lights as well. Features: 400 CFM 115v/60HZ, 77dB(A) Sturdy Aluminum with protective cover to reduce vibration and noise Centrifugal fan, inline Built-in stand/mount - Easy to install! Quiet operation Top quality motor resists moisture, UL Approved Carbon filters, in conjunction with our inline fans help purify the air in your growing environment and prevent build-up of moisture and odors. For most purposes your carbon filter should be hung horizontally at the top of your growing tent or room and be connected to your fan ducting the air to the outside. Since warm air containing particles will rise, drawing it into the filter at the top of your indoor garden and then venting it outside will be most efficient. You can also use your filter with a fan connected to the lights which will help cool the lights as well.Features:Charcoal Carbon Filter scrubs odor particles and purifies airHigh quality white cotton filter padCarbon filters should be replaced approximately every 6 months depending on use."

Wonder if the buyer is reliable with this description discrepancy...

77db ... I just read 70db is your average vacuum cleaner...that's a bit loud hu?

i would say so, but mine is loud too and its only a 4 inch. its louder then the window ac unit i got in the same room. the plants are in my closet in a box i built, and i keep the door cracked so the air from the ac goes in there, but idk im just gonna get the cooltube and try it with a 4 incher and whenever i get cash ill upgrade to a 6 inch and sell the 4 inch on ebay or craigslist.

I dont find mine that loud. If I put the 750 cfm fan at full speed the fan gets a little loud, but I dont usuallly run it at full speed. I run my fan at 3/4 speed and it is not too bad. Important reminder when using a high output inline fan with filter in tent. You need to have adequate intake or you could collapse your tent, by sucking all air out without enough air coming in, the tent could literaly implode So I am afraid to leave my filter fan on high when I am gone, because it is a beast. The article is right about having your filter up high, I had to mount mine on a stand on the floor, because a 8' filter was 68lbs, plus my metal hoods (15 lbs) apiece and then you would have to mount a heavy fan. I think it would be too much.
