Grow Tent vrs. DIY

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether I should buy a grow tent or build my own. I am using my garage and have about a 12 x 12 area to play with. I wanted to get the SOG going with about 12-15 plants and maybe 3 different mother plants. anyone have any ideas or personal experience they can share.

The only thing I have right now is a 4' Hydro Farm T5 with four bulbs. 3 bag seed palnts as starters, a shelf, a fan, pots, and soil. Going to need to get somehting going here soon, I think I have about a month before I want to start flowering.

No one has any opinions? Maybe it's been talked about to much already.

id say just build your own , unless you got the money to spend , but i like building my own stuff , just cuz it makes everything alot better knowing you did it all yourself without any help of having to buy somthing that was made in a factory , thats just my opinion tho , plants are lookin good tho btw

Depending on what you want to build... your prob gonna spend just as much on materials as you would on a grow tent. Then you have to think about what your time is really worth. I have a box i built and a tent. Personally i like my tent because it breaks all the way down quik in case i gotta run for the hills you know. and then it sets up just as fast.

I'm a BIGTIME do it yourself-er. But I'm also quite thrifty. After 3 grows without, i finally bought a grow tent. I could not have provided my plants a better growing area, for less $ than i spent on the tent if i had tried to make my own. But if you have materials lying around, or you want to be really custom about it and you have the ingenuity or if money is no concern....Have at it!
The BEST things in life are the things that you do and provide yourself. The best weed i ever smoked was the 1st weed I grew myself. Was it the most potent? Probably not. The best tasteing? Maybe. But I'm telling you it was the BEST man, the best.

I have a 2 1/2 x 3 x 5 tent, a 4x4x7 and I built my own room. Im just finishing up the ducting and moving into the newly built room but im still using the tents for cloning and mothers, so.... I gotta say build your own room in the garage if it stays cool enough. My biggest issue with the grow room is heat so an a/c is in the works for that. If I kept it inside then the central a\c would work but it cools the whole house when I usually only need the grow room cooled.

With the door, drywall for one side only, ducts, insulated venting, wood it cost about 200 and i need to get an a/c thats 100 more.. But I have much more air moving around and tons more space. With some 2x4's and plywood I could make small cloning and mother rooms. probablly cost another 40-80 to do that. I have all the tools luckily and no idea how to frame so i made it up as I went along, lol. Even framed in a working door somehow. I was amazed when it actually opened and closed and the lock lined up, lolol. What Im saying is its not all that hard.


p.s. - Gap filler foam IS the best thing sliced bread!

JohnWayneCFC - I love building my own stuff. The satisfation of knowing what you did. A beautiful thing man. Plus, hell, the people who devolped the grow tent.... sure they had my best intentions in mind when they first started.....but two years later, after all those execs and lawyers.....hell no they don't care about me. They just want my money. LOL

Blackedout - I kind of have a feeling. Hell.... after all the money and hard work..... tent would have probably been the smarter move. Thanks man.

itsgrowinglikeaweed - i am too... well at least a little thrifty....well.....I like to think so. Hell, I work for architects. ( renders....I'm a 3d artist) I totally want to do this thing on my own....... but life has trained me. In the end, I too will break down and buy a tent. Even if it was out of pure curiosity, just to know I could yield more than some factory. But more then likely the tent will win. even if it's just on looks and ease of use. .... I'll tell you one thing. Once this bud blooms, it's totally going to be the best stuff ever.

olosto - dude.......I hear you. AC, I bought. Wife let me use her home depot card. I bought a portable a/c that cools 400 sq feet,......it's cooing as I write. And I am so going to build my own room. why? Because your post inspires me. Hell ..... how could I not try and attempt this venture after that post. Man I am so high right now....all this makes sense. Hell...... I feel like building right now. But i won't...I'm not that high. Instead.....I'll build this week end...just did a side job and pulled in a extra 1600 to blow. I thinks it's time to get beyond stoned this memorial day weekend and build a kick ass grow room.
