Grow with hps, all stages...

Yeah.

I buy my clones from a local dispensary as teens, so they're already about 14in tall. Then I veg for 2wks under my 400 in 5gal containers with 1/2 F.F Ocean Forest & 1/2 Happy Frog with 30% Perlite mixed in. I top them 5 days before I start my 12/12 cycle, lollipop at least the bottom 1/3 of each plant 1 day before flowering, make clones(when I come across super good genetics), then they become beasts with my lamp 8-10in away.

You can use an HPS...but why would you is maybe a better question. I have seen little difference veging with $22 sylvania MH bulbs and $70 digilux MH. I have also witnessed a big difference between cheap HPS and expensive HPS bulbs.

So why would you put all those veg hours on your nice HPS flowering bulbs? It is pretty much universally understood that plants grow better under the bluer light of MH bulbs...so for $20, it seems like a no brainer to me.

Nothing says you can't do it, but people do allot of things that don't really make sense now don't they. (like using 400 watts of CFL's)

Well, other than the potential expense of a separate lamp and ballast. For me, I'll be using my HPS all the way through again on my next grow

bummer that people use mag ballasts? Also, it's not universally accepted that MH is superior during veg, as evidenced by the opinions in this thread

Dual spectrum hps from start to finish. Never had any problems, fuck all that swapping bulbs over nonesense. KISS.
Even dual spectrum bulbs do not cover the same spectrum of a MH. Ceramic MH comes close to covering both..but we are talking about HPS.

Problems? No, probably not.

Best results? Also probably not.

Not sure why I actually ever posted in this thread. People seem to disagree on the simplest of things. It's not universally accepted that MH is better for veg because there are some people posting that they use HPS during veg? If you look in ANY published marijuana grow guide and they will tell you the same thing...MH for veg HPS for flowering. Anyways...you can use any bulb and ballast you want. Hell, grow with a halogen bulb, makes no difference to me.

If your struggling with this part of indoor horticulture, I can't imagine what your thought process is on the actually complex aspects

Dude.... I didn't say MH were not better to veg because they are. I said I simply used HPS because I coudn't be arsed with bulb swapping. I use HPS throughout because I have flowering and veging plants in the same tent.

Any takers on how and why I do that. (bit of fun)(oops, maybe not, stoned and forgot hijacking)

no, its pretty much bullshit that you put forth the notion that its not accepted that MH are BETTER FOR VEGGING than a HPS is.

And yes, magnetic ballasts ARE a bummer... hotter, more inefficient, noisy as fuck, not dimmable, many not switchable between bulbs, less light output, output that fades over time...

oh yeah... I guess they are $30 cheaper than a quality digital ballast.

MeanGreen, please don't leave the forum because of a thoughtless comment from a jerk. Seriously, there are plenty of great posters here.
