growing in a closet! need help!

so in a little space like a closet would it be best just to use fluorescent fixtures and regular fluorescent bulbs for vegetation stage? If so will I need to switch my light when it's time to flower?

Closets vary in size. Tall and narrow etc.

How you plan on setting it up will also make a difference. The best way to utilize all the space would be veg on one side and flower on the other. That way you can use all the height for both sides. And you will need it when you flower. Plants double and sometimes triple when flowering.

So give us some details about your closet. Dimensions, etc.

it's about 3x3ft and about 7 to 8 ft tall. wanted to grow about 2-3 plants

This sounds perfect for a 400w hps setup. Still up to you You can even fit a 600 in there witht the right ventilation. For vegi would sugest cfls as you can get them closer to the plants at differnet heights. You should be good with 2 or 3 plants but you can put more depending on your setup.

so will a plant grow off regular fluorescent fixtures and bulbs during vegetation stage in a closet or will I need to get mh lights for the blue spectrum light for vegetation?

try and get any kind of hid system u can first and if u cant then u want compact floros(cfl), u can find cfls that produce the colors needed for cultivation, blue for vegging (the daylights bulbs 6500k) and the more reddish "soft whites" 2700k for flowering.
