growing in a school zone

I'm thinking about renting a house in Lansing mi (delta township). Is it ok to grow next to a school?

Advise never do it or near a day care period. If things go wrong you will be another page in the court docket. And on the news and front page.

Being in a school zone is an add on charge, not a crime in itself. Kinda like robbery vs robbery using a firearm. If there is no base crime, there is no aggravating factor for the crime like being in a school zone.

Stay within the law, and by that I mean 1 patient, 12 plants, 2.5 ounces and 1 caregiver, 5 patients, and only transfers between registry associated people and you are fine.

True is correct, but only if you are charged under federal law for having marijuana at all. I don't see people being charged under federal law for medical grows in accordance with the MMMA. The feds aren't interested in grandma with glaucoma growing her 4 plants in the closet.

If the feds bust 2 legal caregivers for going over the 100 plant count. I don't see why the wouldn't raid a grower for growing in a house that is clearly inside a drug-free school zone.
IMO that is extremely dangerous.

I had a small grow that got visited by the fuzz. i lived pretty close to a school. idk if it was within 1000 feet or not probably, coulda hit it with a good drive so ya it probably was and no one made a big deal. i was well within my numbers and kept a respectful dialog open with them the whole time they were there and as soon as they realized i wasn't a cartel connect they moved on

Its all kinda grey area so i guess best bet stay a quarter mile or so away, 1000 ft at least and always stay within your numbers. keep things posted out where everyone can see and make sure everything is all locked up. i remember seeing a news report out of detroit that someone was busted for growing more then they should WITHIN a school zone and the prosecution intended on treating it that way. so best bet better safe then sorry but like bob said the feds are not interested in grandma either so that just depends on what your comfortable with your situation i guess.

If there is any smell at the school or on the sidewalk in front of your house, def. not cool.

You never know. I wouldn't do it if I had a choice because if you are popped, it's up to 5 years and $10000 in addition to other charges, and they will give it to you if you are growing within 1000' of a school. I'm within that range, if I something happens I am fucked, but I can't grow anywhere else. Just something to think about. Peace

drug free/gun free school zone. im sure growing mmj falls in there somewhere. i would pass on the location. be safe, be legal, and be unnoticed.

Lansing may have an ordinance specifying not within 1000' of schools (churches?) and playgrounds. believe this was voted-in after the explosion of dispensaries, but it still applies to caregivers too. If you are just a patient with only 12 plants, I'd be less concerned.Find another place if you are wishing to be a CG at your new location.

sorry to steal the topic but does this rule only apply to schools or parks the same thing? been thinking about growing but we have a fire dep. and a park right by my house

If there is a playground in the park that could -possibly- be a conflict. The firehouse is a plus, hopefully firemen will never be needed at your address.

Ya by no means am i advocating growing by a school. i didnt even know the one was by my old house until months after i started growin. and the LEO were NOT there for a weed call, they were there for other BS and just happened to see the well hidden well Odor Controlled SMALL grow opp. If you have a choice like i did in my most recent acquisition of a roof over my head then there shouldnt be a school within miles! Being by a fire dept might be a plus!

But i did hear that fire guys wont put a fire out if they know there is a grow opp. too much electricity ive been told. not every grow qualifies as a get fried if you spray water here grow but they dont know that going in i spose. I know if my master lighting controller were to arc to someone....... its game over... like in a bad way lol I just ordered a couple automatic fire extinguishers for my set up just in case. im always worried with the wife and kids too. thats alot of juice too disrespect.

Yes. Unless you run afoul of the feds. It is not a crime in itself to grow your medication in your own home. Or be a caregiver for your up to FIVE registry associated patients. Your example of a 100 plant grow is self explanatory, simply because you have multiple caregivers doesn't change the federal limits/thresholds. 100 plants doesn't sound like a medical grow. Using the same logic, you could claim that if 25 caregivers 'lived' in the same house, they could grow 1800 plants. Just doesn't pass smell test under the MMMA.

Actually, I've always believed outdoor grows were legal. My interest was the bonafide relationship, the new condition panel, cards coming out in a reasonable amount of time, and 2 year cards. I thought the provision confirming the outdoor grows was a plus as it protected patients from 'local interpretation' of the act over an outdoor grow.

Your information is rather deficient and unreliable. But I have used the 'grandma with glaucoma' quote- especially with test cases, to avoid issues like we ran into with Koon. He was not the poster child I would have picked for the issue, but at least it had a good outcome for patients.
