Growing in clear see through pots.

So I have a little grow tent and have one of my plants in a clear pot that use to be a water gallon bottle. The roots are exposed to lights can this become an issue and should I change it?

light is bad for roots, you can either try and find a pot that's not clear, or you can even get crafty and say spray paint the outside of the pot or find something to put around it so that the light won't get to your roots, either way..

From what I understand when roots are exposed to light they will stop growing towards it. It's natural selection's way of not expending energy on useless roots. Since in nature light=edge of soil. That being said you will still see roots through the container and some people use transparent containers to root clones.
Also algae COULD grow. Gross.

Light kills roots - perhaps wrap the pot in some aluminum foil - or better yet just re-pot into a good pot?
Don't paint it if the plant is still in the pot if that's the way you're gonna go - shit is toxic to the little buggers.

If you can see if there is a hydroponic store in your local area or if you're comfortable with it go to Amazon and find a SmartPot. They are essentially a special cloth bucket that you can fill with any medium you like and the plant will love it. It's design allows for better aeration throughout your medium as well as "air-pruning" of your plants roots as it reaches the edge of the pot. The roots grow through the pot instead of traveling downward like they would in a plastic container and hit air. This exposure to air will cause the root to stop growing in that direction and seek out other areas to grow into. So with a SmartPot it is real easy to just start your plant in or to transplant in as a final container, depending on your veg time of course.

Clear pots works for me mate. Doing a grow right now, half with dark colored pots, half with clear pots and they both look good.

Everone that says nay has no plant biology/botany experience at all. Depends on species and genius of plant. Cannabis is dietious and they have no problem growning in a clean clear pot as long as soil is kept to a good controlled moisture level. They dont not grow advantageous roots when exposed to air/light it actually leads to root pruning in intensive light exposure which is the same as a mesh smart pot grows tight and even dense root zone very healthy btw. And its nice to see the roots grow along side the canopy. To those that say no its bad have no proof of poor grows next to a control pot. And are going off the same bs they have heard blabbed over and over with not proof. Its a dietious diacoytaletant a weed not a bald cypress stop comparing advantageous roots that are of the conifer or evergreen genius you hear stuff and think it applys to everything succulent house plants and cannabis is like apples to potatoes if you dont really know then how do you know. Real knowledge is learned by trial and error and discovery not buy repeatedly spouting off what others have written. A wise man will learn everything and questions it all untill he discovers the knowledge thats he knows is true. Einstein didn't discover relativity buy following the curriculum he learned all that they taught and he questioned it till he found "HIS" own truth.in the vally of the blind the deaf man is king. Thank you... Absolutely correct. It's hard to get accurate info on anything. So many repeated myths. I use clear pots to watch root growth on Auto flowers. These are 4" slotted and 4" clear Orchid pots. If you transplant your Auto Flowers just as the roots are close to the side, the tap root will not have bottomed out. This will keep your Auto Flower from entering shock when transplanted and grow just as large "Lol" as same pot seed to harvest.
