Growing is Great

I just completed my first grow! White Widow X Big Bud and I just think I found my new hobby. I had a blast, and now that it is complete, I am high as he'll enjoying life. Not a huge yield for I used grow flouros, but not bad, not bad at all. Just 4 plants in all and I am very pleased. Easier than I thought. To autoflowing next.......

Happy to hear you found your new hobby. I was very happy i remember. I boosted the hobby by growing all sorts of thing under my lamp. For instance i have a Jalapeno chili growing there. I have a couple of orchids and other stuff too. I use it to make tomato plants for the spring etc. But - the buds i love the most and they get all the light they want - the other plants just suck up the leftovers ;O).
Happy growing buddy!

Here's a good tip for you ..... increase your lighting and skip the auto-flowering strains. At this point in your hobby nothing will improve your overall results more than upgrading your lighting ... and auto-flowering strains are a gimmick. Stick with photo-period strains from true quality breeders and you'd be even better off avoiding feminized seeds and instead using regular seeds and just removing the males.

I agree with this! - the better the seeds the better/potent the plants will be.
Half a year ago my buddy bought some cheap seeds from a well reputed grower. The strain he has is Nemesis (it is a very nice and easy plant to grow - LOTS of trichomes) But when we compare a joint made from this with a joint made from my original Jack Herer - i promise you - the difference in potency is just BIG. After smoking the Nemesis joint we can imediately start up the Jack joint and people still go "wow - what's in that?"
So just a story about the importance of buying high quality genes to begin with. They cost you the same amount of labor, lights, time etc., but the end product will just be so much more pleasant to enjoy. If i didn't have the money to buy quality seeds i would borrow them and grow the highest quality only.

growing has started to take a lot of my time, i cant wait until the lights change and then going up to check on the plants, in this society we live in growing weed is cool and saves you money but not too far in it does become more than a hobby and you get very involved with the plants. i think its because it keeps your mind working so much with different techniques and any problems you come across. maybe in a while i might even start thinking of putting other things under the lights but not just yet , im having too much of a good time growing weed.

Yea. I am aware that the lighting I hav is not the best, however, I did alot of research n I think this is best for me now. Do not want high power lighting such as mh bc I do not want to pay that electric bill nor do I want to b overly concerned about chance of fire. I wanted to try LED but I jus don't think they hav come along way yet. I have four 2ft grow lights and 3 cfl. I hav a 3 and 4 yr old n I jus want somethin easy for some head smoke. In all honesty, I think it turned out better than I planned n I liv near the Netherlands. Obviously not as gr8 as them, but def a step up from some I hav smoked in the passed. It is beautiful here now n I hav a sunroom, so I let my plants get alot of natural rays. I flush, I giv nutrients, great circulation, love, etc.
As for autoflowering, I do wanna check it out. I buy from Herbies and was very pleased with them. Everyone has their own way to grow n I'm jus findin my way. Trial n error is the way to success n it's fun.
Oh, by the way, I'm a chick!!!

the led lights are great for veg but i have not tried the red led for flwering yet, too happy with the hps. also use the mh when not using light to flower. i know the auto flowering have there perks but the yields just havnt been as good from what ive seen. so ill stick with the reg seeds for now.

Great to hear of your enjoyment. Myself there is nothing like tending a plant, wether it be MJ, or my garden. But I do think changing your lights to 250 or 400 watt MH or Sod. would really increase your yield with negilible amount of elec.. And the beautiful sun is the best. This is going to be my first outdoor year, things are warming up nicely here in the US.

BrickTop, I listen to alot of your posts. You have great knowledge.
Why do you state "stay away from fem. seed"
If buying from quality genetics it should not be a problem.?????
I am asking with respect.

And as being a female Spinnin, I know many women that grow, so I don't think that is a issue.
Keep up the good work.
I would love to go to the Netherlands, but my wife would not allow me so close to a place of almost legal MJ.

Sometimes I follow this guys posts just for the wisdom, lol. Very true though. I did my first grow about 8 months ago, autoflowering and cfls. Now I have 8 plants in a tent, under 1200w of HPS. Even though I enjoyed the first grow, they don't even compare.

I liv in Germany bout 4 hrs frm The Netherlands. I am an American here for work for 3 yrs, Si I'm def gonna take advantage of it. As for upgrading my lightning, I think I'll wait til after summer n just take advantage of the sun now. I can tell u what, when I smoked my first bowl, it felt so great!

All feminized seeds are unstable to a degree and because of it you are more likely to get hermies from them. For years the best breeders did not make feminized seeds, many still do not. In the last few years some of the better breeders have made them, but not because they are good, but to regain their lost market share of all the people who think feminized seeds are actually true females seeds and and a better value and easier since they do not have to know how to sex their plants separate the males.

Other than with a small handful of breeders you will get higher quality genetics from those who deal only in regular seeds. The companies that deal only in feminized seeds, and those who are slowly moving in that direction, have lower quality genetics.

The singular redeeming value to feminized seeds is if someone just doesn't have enough room to grow out enough plants from regular seeds to be sure of ending up with enough females to cover their wishes or needs. But then there is the gamble that they still might not end up with enough plants by harvest because they might lose one or two because they are hermies, well, that or they keep them and settle for seedy pot.

I am going to put you on the spot, you don't have to answer if you don't like.

Which breeders do you regard as the "small handful of breeders"

Myself, I quess call me lazy, or I just have the money, I order only feminized this year.

I am moving outdoors and don't want to handle any more plants than I need to.

Thanks for your input.
