Not in AZ but in the heat...the ground is better in hot environments because even huge pots will cook in that extreme heat. I'd prepare a big circle 4-6 ft diameter, and dig down and loosen up the soil as deep as you can, amend it with compost, and then cover it with a THICK layer of straw at least 6 inches deep, then water DEEP. That's how I used to grow super tasty landrace Mexican in the Central Valley of CA. Strain matters too, get a heat tolerant sativa.
