Growing Under White LED, Anyone Else Doing This?

FranJan,

No worries...

There's a lot I don't know, This ain't the HPS of my youth...

I am overly impressed with the novel methods folks have created and are using to grow...

Awesome. This should be a sticky.

I find so many led enthusiasts to resist the obvious. There is much more to PAR than RB peaks

I, too, was shooting for an all white (NW +WW seed - toke grow), but I needed ~$100 more in lights, to flower. I had a R/B ufo, that I paid $350 for, so I employed it for harvest.

i too dont understand these red/blue only grow lights. i understand that's where cholorphyl PEAKS production, but if you look at the data there is activity going on at any point in the spectrum- maybe you can say green doesnt do any good, but whos to say it doesnt have some benefit that we just dont know about yet. remember, your plants have adjusted to use sunlight for millions of years. youre not going to change their habits in a cycle or two.

i think, ideally, you give your plants the closest thing to sunlight you can get. and thats white light. the pictures prove it too! if you look at these red/blue grows, theyre weak shit! just the pics in this thread alone look a lot better, a lot more like hps grows!

i am planning on making my own led lights. im shooting for 500w output for about $850 retail price. my color choices have concentrated about 70% as 'warm' white, with about 20% red led's to spike the flowering, a couple blue led's to boost the vegging, and a couple small UV led's to promote resin production. best i can figure, this should be an ideal combination. time will tell though!

He should call this picture "Weak"

There are many different LED grow fixtures/lights out there...
Many work well :-) and some do not :-(...
Some have white LEDs too...

I am out to use LED Bulbs/Lamps that I can get at the local DIY store as another option.
LED lighting products are so new and only time will tell what is going to work best.

I am purchasing a all white LED system, 12 diodes of white, 4x warm, and 8x daylight to help offset HPS

Not too many have much cool so I decided to try something new

trueg115,

Home Depot, Menards, Lowes, Walmart, Target, and many other places are finding and selling "affordable" LED light bulbs.

Yes, they are still expensive...
Not all are created equal...

Between Home Depot and an order to a horticulture supplier I replaced two 70 watt HPS lamps with LED bulbs.

Less heat... Lots of new things to learn... Did not have to use my electronics skills (I'm not much at soldering and mounting discrete LEDS)...

I cut to auto plant today...

What it looked like some time ago...

The results...

I'm happy with it. Other plants still working with some started clones.

What I learned, WATER and PH are much more important with LED. I've had a too low Ph condition... I have a new digital Ph tester...

Learned a couple of other things about LED lights for the future as to proper use of FR

I'm impressed with what those lights can do. We were just talking about adding some kessils but those spotlighted would be much better.

Good work. Keep it up
