growing with an aerogarden please help

Ok so i got an aerogarden delux for 150 bucks im very new to this and just experimenting i dont know if this is bad or good thats why i need peopls oppinions on this i notice alot of other aerogarden plants look pretty weak until they get closer to the light so would it make sence to place the light closer to the seeds like 2 to 3 inces from the seed while germinating? like if it were a fluro or would it be too hot and just burn the plant
