A friend of mine was wondering what is the average cost of running a 1000WATT HID light for a month. Now if he's growing high grade stuff is soil or hydro the better choice. And assuming he can sell off an oz of the highs for an EASY 325 ea, what do you think hed make profit wise on about 10plants? Worth it?
 
The cost of running the 1000 watt light depends on how much you pay per kWh (kilo watt hour). It is always worth it to grow cannabis, remember people have been making income for thousands of years off of growing Cannabis. But selling an ounce should easily cover your lighting costs (though I don't know your going electricity rates). I can't tell you how much you will get from 10 plants (too many variables) but I can tell you for certain you will make profit off of it. Good luck to "your friend".
 
about 70 bucks for light 12/12 about 120 for 20/4. best off to get a hps as its more efficient than mh and will give u those tight hard hydro buds.

All I wanted was someone to say

"Well if you put ap lant in veg for X amount of time you will probalbey get X ammount"

But no everyones gotta pretend its so technical its like impossible too figure out. So ill do what NON of you can.

Last year I grew 3 plats in veg for 2 months and got 6 and a half ozs. So guestimate 13 ozs. 13x350 = 4900 bucks

If grown aeroponics I could potentially get a pound every 3 weeks after establishing mother plants.

Do the work yourself you lazy fuck. There are so many variables do more fucking research, People like you piss me off so much. There are plenty of places online to figure out how much a HID would cost per month, DO THE FUCKING MATH LAZY FUCK
 
for being at total frickin noob, you sure are full of yourself... how about this: what kind of strain are you running? co2? what method of growing? how long in veg? what strength and brand and method of applying nutes? what kind of ventilation are you running? how hot? how cold? hydro or not? if so are you chilling/ heating the res??? are you planning on using beneficial bacteria and microorganisms??? it's kinda like saying: "i'm a guy, at what age am i going to get married?" we don't know anything about what you are up to, and now i am personally disinclined to help you out in any way, shape or form... so you can go f--- yourself noob... you are a jacka--...

Someone already did. I'll try to break it down just a little further.

A 1000w HID light gives 1000w of power to the light, but consumes something in the vicinity of ~1040w (I don't know the exact number, and digital ballasts are more effecient)

at 18/6 for veg, you can assume about 560 kWh/month
at 12/12 for flowering you can assume about 375 kWh/month


kWh pricing varies according to company that sells it, time of use (off peak is cheaper), and any taxes your area charges them that they pass down to you. I average something in the vicinity of 10 cents per kWh. I had this post typed a long time ago, left the house and forgot about it, so if it was already answered my apologies.
 
Its gonna cost less then $400 for electricity. 1000watts should bring in a good pound of weed for your first time. That pound of weed is considerably more valuable than $400.
