Growth stunted on 3 of 6 plants in same environment

Hey guys,

This is only my second grow, wasn't sure if I should post here or in the newbies section...

Growing 6 plants, two strains. Four are Sativa, the other two Indica, both from quality feminized seeds purchased from Dr. Chronic, paid about $90USD for 8 seeds.

Growing outside, same soil (MiracleGro Potting Mix), same containers (16" diameter pots with drain holes), same lighting (all near each other) and same watering. I tested the pH and all fall between 6.5 and 7.0.

Yet, three of the six have not grown in weeks, maxing out at 2-3 inches. The other three seem to be growing normally and are up to about a foot each with a nice branch and leaf spread.

Both Indicas and one of the Sativas are fine, the other three Sativas are seriously stunted.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with them, other than their small size and the fact that they stopped growing. There is no leaf discoloration, welting, spots, etc. They appear just like they did a few weeks ago, tiny but healthy seedlings. I could post pics if necessary, but didn't think it would be based on this info?

One mistake I made is that I planted too late in the year (mid-July in California), so I don't expect them to get very big before they start flowering but that can't be the cause of the stunting, I'm sure... Especially that the other three seem to be ok.

Not sure what to do... I feel saddened every day when I got out to check them out. It's like having six kids but three of them are retarded :)
I love them all equally and want to help, but feel helpless... :-|

Thanks in advance,
Pete

They are stunting because the days are getting shorter and they are getting ready to flower, so they stop growing

Thanks for the replies guys.
I can appreciate the theory you're presenting, but not sure I can agree with it, though...

It would make more sense to me IF:

(1) All plants acted the same way since they're all getting the exact same amount of light. How could we explain the fact that three of six are vegging just fine and sprouting new leaves and nodes and secondary nodes every day?

(2) We still get 14 hours of daylight here, isn't that a little too much to start flowering just yet? Maybe not...

I really don't mean to undermine your expertise guys, I have probably the least amount of experience on this board, just trying to get a better understanding, that's all... So I'm playing devil's advocate
