Best thing I can say is you usually don't have to worry bout the squirrels it's the deer and livestock like cows and horses they seem to love it deer will sometimes lay on them if they are in a good bedding location and don't use bone meal or chicken manure the skunks always dig up our plants when that is used I never use any kind of wire makes em easier found if your tending your plants often you can use flora nova in a soilless mix witch is what I prefer but if your only gonna check em once a month or even longer then your gonna want some time release formulated nutes witch is what I learned last year roflMao it was expected I was expecting and we were having complications and I had to stay home when I wasn't working
