This will be easy to answer for the pros.
I got weed a few months back , good smoke a bit itchy but good stone.
anyway there were seeds init, the bud its self was whole and the seeds were in the middle of the bud, it was dry enough to crumble with my fingers so they didnt get damaged in the grinder, I was going to plant the seeds, but I dont know if the resulting plant will be hermie. How do you know if the plant was pollenated or hermied.
I also have some older thai stick seeds found the same way they are the largest seeds I have ever seen and have pretty markings, I thought there was somthing wrong with this when iI seen it as it was very brown but turned out to be a really smooth smoke , I wasnt a fan of the trippy stone though.
what do you guys advise?

you dont know until you grow it out and see if its a hermie, or ask the person you got it from, that is unless you know a geneticist that has specifically studied the cannabis genome, though he'll have to cut the seed open and kill it to see whats goin on inside.

Grow it and see what happens! I have saved seeds when I find a seed here and there from bags. Grew them out. Some hermied. Some were males. Some were great smoke.

Just give it a try!

also even if it is a hermie doesnt mean it will show up in your phenotype, can be recessive and therefore skip generations etc etc etc.

IF it hermies, it could do it in the late stages of flower. If so, No worries! You'll just have some dried naners!!

thanks for that, I wont be going into anything as advanced TBH, I guess I will just plant them , I was worried about the thai seeds being large as I heard they could be male , but then people say theres no way to tell by looking at it? So much to learn when your starting out

Best advice I could give ya....

Start out with bag seed. Learn what works for you and the plant. Get good. THEN buy seeds or clones. Start in soil. More forgiving if you make a mistake. And RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!!!

This is excactly what I am doing and any newbies reading this should do.I have choosen to go for clones after a few cycles with the seeds I have I have no doubt alot will be male but I want to get the growing enviroment as good as I can before making mistakes on the good stuff , Thanks

im with u on that 1 my friend have my first female from a bag seed and have 5 more seeds to try next before i buy some haze and cheese seeds dont wanna be messing up that grow gonna experiment first

Why in gods name do you want to spend a bunch of time and money on a seed you know nothing about. It obviously already has issues going in or you wouldn.t have the seed. Just break out the visa and buy some quality seed and you will grow quality weed. Bagseed grow are for people who lead bagseed lives. Be the best that you can be. Why shoot for mediocrity in this or anything else? Why.........WHY?

I have 4 plants from bag seed on the go already but I know they are from a good female plant that was pollenated and ruined as it was left to long.

So the genitics will be mediocre of they aren't bought from Attitude or Nirvana?
Bull, there are a lot of great strains out there that may pop a seed or two, hell - it might just be the best weed you ever grew (like I've never heard that before).
And what is wrong with not spending 100's of dollars on seeds to get your technique/equipment up to par?
I've got a WW strain that tends to herm at the end of flower & I consider it a bonus - super smooth and very potent smoke with a perpetual seed supply with an average of maybe a dozen per plant (3 to 4 O's per plant).
Honestly I fail to see a drawback.

That's my feeling. I put a lot of work into my plants. I'm not going to waste my time on a crap shoot when for $10 I can get a seed that's high quality genetics. But I can see it being a fun experiment and if you are into it, why not?

WHY??? Well if you pulled the seed from a bag of some decent smoke, You have an idea of what the seed can produce. If you are just starting out, don't waste money failing. Some have an issue sprouting seeds. Some can get them to sprout but dont know what to do or screw up and they die.

You're right! Why not spend the next four months on a crap shoot. Makes perfect sense to me..and you can save like $50 bucks. Quite a bargain?

The OP is just starting to learn how to grow doser. Why spend the money and fail when you can grow FREE beans and get a feel for growing? That's common sense to me, and many others on this site, but as my father would say... Everyone is born with common sense, not everyone chooses to use it. ;)

MAYBE it's the fact doser, that living where you live, all you could get was shitty-ass bags? Or maybe you just didn't know the right people?? Some of the best pot that I have grown came from bagseed. Again though, I'm from Cali where Dank is easy to come by. Can't speak on the ease of finding Dank in Idaho....

Ditto - Seed snobs, Sheesh. I guess if it doesn't come out of a pretty package with some bud porn on it, it can't possibly be any good. :wall:

Because thats the way I want to do It, I get what your saying but I prefer to practice at somthing first instead of jumping right in
